#9243"Take the under in the Braves-Giants Game 1 matchup tonight.
I’m convinced I would lean to the under if it was posted at 3½ or 4.
First off you have a cavernous AT&T Park as the backdrop and a San Francisco team that has struggled on offense since opening day.
Then there’s Tim Lincecum, who is starting for the Giants tonight. The right-hander won five of his last six starts following a tough August. He is a pure stud who can shut anybody down when he’s on.
The Braves will start Derek Lowe, who has about a thousand year’s of postseason experience. The right-hander has 21 career postseason appearances, including 10 starts. Lowe won his last five regular-season starts.
With both teams struggling on the offensive end this has all the looks of a 2-1, or 2-0 final."

#9244"This is interesting line because the oddsmakers are doing everything they can to get you to play the Braves here. They're offering what "looks like" excellent value on Derek Lowe, who's been fantastic in September (5-0, 1.17 ERA in 5 starts last month) and great against the Giants in this spot (5-1, 1.98 ERA in 8 career starts at AT&T Park). So what gives? Why make Lowe such a bargain, while backing Lincecum will cost you so much more (relatively)?
The answer is pretty obvious, because oddmakers are trying to entice you to bet the Braves. Unfortunately, this ploy has not worked, as Lincecum's name recognition still has a good size majority of bettors backing the Giants, myself included. He went 5-1 with a 1.94 ERA in 6 starts last month, and despite Lowe's recent impressive numbers, we can all agree Lincecum is the more consistent pitcher. I also happen to give a slight edge to the Giants bullpen and specifically closer Brian Wilson.
And for those of you out there touting the Braves obvious edge at the plate, remember, Atlanta hitters batted just .216 against Lincecum in the 2 games they saw him this season... So let's not get too carried away with expectations of the Braves offense tonight. Low-scoring affair expected here, and when you combine Lincecum and Wilson in that kind of contest, I don't care who's opposing them quite frankly, they're the play. San Francisco (Lincecum) over Atlanta (Lowe) Thursday."Comment -

#9245"This is a solid price for the Braves despite being 14 games worse than San Francisco in the home/road splits. The pitching matchup would have favored the Giants in a big way earlier in the season but that has all changed now. Derek Lowe is a new pitcher. His numbers in September were outstanding as he went 5-0 with a 1.17 ERA with 29 strikeouts and three walks in 30.2 innings. Some will look at that and attribute it to luck or just a fortunate month but Lowe is pitching differently now because of his own actions. He went to pitching coach Roger McDowell, telling him, “I need a new game plan; what I'm doing isn't working.” McDowell suggested a change in approach, setting up hitters differently and mixing in different pitches. The rest is history as he is making a plan now and the best part for Atlanta is that they are seeing his back-door breaking ball to left-handers which used to be his signature pitch but the Braves had yet to see it. In 17 career starts against the Giants, Lowe has a 3.02 ERA and this season he went 2-0 with a 2.38 ERA in two starts. AT&T Park has turned into a home away from home as Lowe is 5-1 with a 1.98 ERA in eight starts there. The Giants send their ace to the hill in Tim Lincecum and he too had a great September. In his last outing he earned his fifth win in his last six outings following a career-worst five-start losing streak. He has not been the same at home this year however. Last season he went 10-2 with a 1.88 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 17 starts at AT&T Park with the giants going 10-5 in those games. This season he went just 9-7 with a 3.69 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 17 starts with San Francisco going 9-8 in those games."Comment -

#9251rays will get swept boys.. don't take them again..
Over is the play in san fran..
Tim can be hit.. he showed that already this season.. also this game is going to be on his nerves.. a lot of first time post season players here guys...
Lowe is still a 4.0 era pitcher .. though he is a vet.. and has looked awesome as of late both on the road and at home.. look closely at those games and they mean shit.. the last month he hasn't faced a team that was in the running yet alone a winning record.. so his 1, 2, & 3 run games mean very little to me ..
either both of these scenarios will happen or one of them will..
1. giants make some big mistakes and cost themselves some runs.
2. Giants Bats get at lowe 2nd time through the rotation.
play the over guys.. i mean 6.5? i mean shit, does everyone think atlanta will really not score of Tim? really guys? come onComment -
