Friday (west vs mock):
ADVANTAGE MARLINS (west has been pitching very well and hopefully can keep it up) WINNER

Marlins: The 23-year-old West has put together a nice stretch of starts. Four of his past six outings have been quality starts, including his past two, both wins. The left-hander beat the Padres on Aug. 30, giving up three runs (two earned) in six innings. He struck out seven, which matched a season high. West has one previous appearance against the Nationals. On June 30, he worked 4 1/3 innings, giving up five runs in a no-decision.

Nationals: Mock pitched well against the first-place Cardinals on Sunday afternoon, allowing two runs in six innings and striking out five. But he made one big mistake, serving up an RBI hit by Albert Pujols in the sixth inning with first base open to allow the Cardinals to break a 1-1 tie and slip past Washington, 2-1. Mock has won three of his past five starts and has looked impressive since returning to the starting rotation on July 19. He made 13 relief appearances in April before being sent to Triple-A Syracuse to become a starter. "Whoever decided to put Mock in the rotation, it was a good decision," said Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. "Boy, he was very good."

Saturday (jj vs livan)
SLIGHT ADVANTAGE MARLINS: JJ is just sick, but livan is unpredictable, either gets feasted on or looks like cy young vs us, hoping the 1st one shows

Marlins: Johnson pitched brilliantly in his last start, no-hitting the Braves for 5 2/3 innings. But things fell apart with two outs in the seventh inning. The right-hander allowed three runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings while striking out eight and walking three. Johnson will have a chance to bounce back against the Nationals, who scored all four of their runs against him in the eighth inning the last time he faced them.

Nationals: Hernandez took the loss on Monday in San Diego despite a second solid showing since the Nationals signed him on August 26. He pitched a complete game, but allowed three runs on seven hits as Washington mustered little offense. The defeat moved his record at PETCO Park to 0-5, although he owns 12 career wins against San Diego, second most to the team he'll face next, the Florida Marlins.

Sunday (annibal vs martin)
VERY SLIGHT ADVANTAGE NATIONALS: as everyone has seen annibal is mr inconsistency and throws almost a no-no 2 starts ago then gets RAWKED the next one, he's due to bounce back and throw something decent, but hopefully he doesn't find his stuff after getting down 3 or 4 runs. martin has been kinda decent of late though, thus is why i think nats are at a SLIGHT advantage

Marlins: Sanchez struggled with his command at times in his last start, throwing 93 pitches over five innings. The right-hander allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four and walking two. Sanchez will look to pick up his first win since August 21 when he faces the Nationals in his next start.

Nationals: In his last outing, Martin posted just the second quality start of his young career, holding the Padres to three runs (two earned) in six innings during a losing effort. Martin has opposed the Marlins just once in his career, on Aug. 4, when the righty allowed three runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings.

with everything said, we want revenge for that 3 game sweep a month ago that royally f'd us over and now at 4 games back a sweep would be HUGE, we can only go out and win and hope the rawks and giants lose.

plus with nick johnson back in the lineup, and hopefully hanley, we are a TOTALLY different team as ya saw last nite, working deep into the count cause we're finally being very selective
