TA,
I am about 20 min away from tunnel, just outside of town.
The customs thing is really a spin of the wheel kind of thing. I've heard of both positive and negative experiences from people on both sides. You just never know who you're going to run into working that day or what agenda they have there that day. (Someone I know used to work there and there's always something they target everyday or work on, just like any workplace I guess) Your experience sounds awful, but I would try not to let it discourage you from coming over, it can't happen twice can it?
And actually it's part of the reason why my parties didn't want to go. It's no fun unless you go without them bugging you. I've crossed countless of times, only once have they gave me issues, but it was for 15 minutes only.
I wish I had gone, I figured it was going to be a good time and bring back feelings of the very good times the city had in the past, with all the BS going on the last few years.
