Friday was a tough one for my best World Cup predictions today article with Brazil taking half the game off, but I'm not expecting a repeat from Argentina or France today. Matchday 2 is quickly wrapping up with Group I and Group J in action this afternoon, and some of the world's biggest stars take the day: Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe all take the pitch today, as though you needed motivation to tune in.

My World Cup predictions feature plays across all four games as we find the best values on the board.

💰 Best World Cup prediction today

Norway vs. Senegal Over 2.5 (-110) / Erling Haaland Over 1.5 shots on target (-120)

Norway possesses one of the strongest attacks in the entire World Cup, headlined by striker Erling Haaland. Senegal's backline was exposed against France in their opener, though the action took a long time to get going. But that's standard fare for Didier Deschamps, whose French side has routinely been criticized for starting slowly in games.

Norway's strong presence upfront (with Haaland likely to get Over 1.5 shots on target, another of my plays above) will have plenty of touches and shots inside the box, and the Manchester City striker is incredibly likely to bury one, if not two.

For their part, Senegal should be able to get to Norway's lacking backline for at least one, with BTTS: Yes priced at -143. If Norway doesn't get over this number on their own, Senegal will make it happen.

💵 SBR Edge: Situational necessity

Norway finds itself in a strong position to push to finish in the top two in Group I, and it's a team that doesn't want to sit back anyway. Senegal, after losing the opener, can't afford to lose more points. The Senegalese team has enough pace to exploit the Norwegian backline. This one should have fireworks.

If you want specific paths for Haaland to contribute to those fireworks, our Phil Wood has you covered with his Erling Haaland player props today

Argentina Over 1.5 (-150) ✅ / Messi to have 3+ shots on target (+320) ✅

Argentina Over 1.5 is one of the strongest plays on the board for me today, and would be in the above section if the line wasn't sitting so long. They actually produced only 1.26 expected goals in their opener versus Algeria, but when you have the magic of Messi on your team, that's enough for a couple to find the back of the net.

Austria's aggressive line leaves gaps to be exposed, and transition opportunities will abound. Messi will again (and always) be the focal point of the Argentinian attack, and this price carries a 23.81% implied probability. I think the probability of this number hitting should actually be closer to +185 (~35%), so I'm going to pounce on it.

Our Austria vs. Argentina prediction and Lionel Messi player props today both highlight ways La Pulga should make an impact today.

Michael Olise Over 1.5 shots on target (-110) / Kylian Mbappe to score 2+ goals (+210)

These bets are both spreadheaded by the France attack being sharp today as it clashes with an Iraq side that was totally dominated by Norway last time out. Iraq managed just 39% against a defense nowhere near as class as France's, and mustered just one shot on target from that time on the ball.

France started slowly versus Senegal, a habit it has employed frequently over the years. That's something they'll want to shake, and a clash with the worst team in Group I should provide plenty of opportunities. Olise is dangerous from numerous spots across the pitch, and his shooting volume has been excellent.

If France scores four, Mbappe is absolutely capable of being behind two of them - there's no denying the ceiling. This is just one way to get to the superstar today, and it's one of Gordon Brunt's favorite ways that he breaks down in his Kylian Mbappe player props today

Jordan +1 asian handicap (-103) / Jordan Over 2.5 shots on target (+125)

Hardly the most exciting game on the pitch tonight, it is an important one. Either Jordan or Algeria's World Cup ends for all intents and purposes with a loss, and a draw likely isn't good enough for either after dropping their openers.

I do think that Algeria is the better squad, but I don't know if they're a full goal better. Rather than playing the Jordan or tie (+150) double chance, which requires Jordan to avoid defeat entirely, I'm going to give myself the one-goal buffer that will just be a push in the event of a 1-0 or 2-1 loss. It's a bit of a buffer for the game that essentially just needs Algeria not to win comfortably.

Algeria should handle the possession here, but Jordan took advantage of that against Austria in their opener and I think they can get to three again tonight with the tournament on the line.
