Lionel Messi recorded a hat trick in his first match of the World Cup, and I'm expecting another massive performance from him against Austria today. Because Austria is a significantly better squad than Algeria, most Lionel Messi props and odds are quite favorable to bettors, and I'm highlighting the props with the most value. The action gets underway at 1 p.m. ET from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. You can catch it all on FOX, Telemundo, and FOX One.

Lionel Messi to have 2 or more shots on goal (-105) vs. Austria
Not only did Messi score three times in his first match, but he also attempted six shots, putting four of them on target. He now has at least one shot on goal in three of his last four appearances with Argentina.
While the caliber of Austria is higher than what Messi faces in the MLS, it's worth noting that he has at least two shots on goal in seven of his last eight with Inter Miami CF.
💵 SBR Edge: Austria concedes opportunities
While Austria only allowed one goal to Jordan, Jordan was able to put four shots on goal, despite just 37% possession. Even if Austria wins possession over Argentina, just as Algeria did, I expect plenty of legitimate counter opportunities for Messi.

Lionel Messi to score a goal (+100) vs. Austria
After Messi scored three goals in the opener, it's hard not to love this price for him to score anytime. While he's +450 or better at all the major sportsbooks to score twice, I don't want to get carried away with this play.
Still, it's shocking to see a price of +100 when Messi now has five goals in four appearances with Argentina this year. He has eight goals in his last nine matches with his country overall.
All that said, for as many opportunities as Austria has allowed, they've allowed one or fewer goals in 12 consecutive matches, nine of which were competitive. I'll play it safe and stick with Messi to score just once.

Lionel Messi to record an assist (+250)
Rather than backing Messi to score twice, my long-shot prop is for him to record an assist. While he hasn't recorded an assist with Argentina this year, he recorded three in two matches with Argentina in late 2025.
Additionally, in his most recent MLS games, Messi has been an expert at getting his teammates involved. He's recorded eight assists in five matches, with at least one in each of those contests.
Messi finished the match against Algeria with 57 touches, the most of any Argentine forward. He also recorded 0.32 expected assists, as he was the only Argentine player to register a number higher than 0.06.
