Germany, one of the favorites for Euro 2024, and Scotland kick off play on Friday from Munich, Germany, and we have our top predictions and prop picks for the contest based on the odds from our best soccer betting sites. 

Germany enters the tournament as the third favorites according to the Euro 2024 odds. Despite a disappointing performance at the 2022 World Cup, optimism is high within the German camp under head coach Julian Nagelsmann, who is leading the team into a major tournament for the first time.

Germany has a strong track record in major tournaments hosted on their home turf, having reached the semifinals in all three previous occasions. They are heavily favored to secure a win in the opening match. The tournament opener is on Friday at 3 p.m. ET in Munich, Germany (FOX U.S., Fubo).

Germany haven't played a competitive match since they beat Costa Rica 4-2 in the 2022 World Cup. That match was also rendered meaningless as they bowed out after the group stage. Germany have played well recently, winning three of their previous four friendlies, beating the Netherlands, France, and Greece. They tied Ukraine in their only blemish of the quartet.

Scotland's recent woeful patch won't fill fans with much confidence entering the opener. In their last nine matches, Scotland failed to score against Northern Ireland, Spain, and Holland, while netting once against England and France. Germany kept a clean sheet in three of their last five matches and will be steely focused on doing the same against a team that doesn't have the offensive weapons to score in bunches.

Germany doesn't have prolific goal scorers, aside from grizzled veteran Thomas Müller, who will almost certainly start on the bench. That said, Niclas Füllkrug has the potential of becoming a consistent scorer on the international stage. He has 11 goals in 16 matches with the national side, including two tallies in three World Cup contests. 

He should lead the line against Scotland as the focal point of a high percentage of Germany's dangerous attacking forays. The Borussia Dortmund forward scored 12 goals in 31 Bundesliga matches in 2023-24 and will be keen on making an indelible impression in front of the German faithful.

Germany vs. Scotland best bet

Germany win and Under 2.5 goals 

The air permeates with exceedingly high expectations anytime the Germans play at home, and the same will be true on Friday. Germany should win the match comfortably, but I don't expect a high-scoring affair.

First, Scotland will be steadfast on being difficult to break down, which should make it challenging for the home side to bag the opener, at least early. Scotland are chockfull of players who specialize in shutting down the opposition, namely Scott McTominay. Also, it might take Germany some time to get up to the tempo and physicality of tournament footy.
