Top Expert NHL ML Picks

Capitals (+130)

In a battle of the top two teams in the Metropolitan division, it may be smart to take a flier on the Washington Capitals as an underdog. The Capitals boast the fifth-most goals per game (3.52), and they allow the fourth-fewest goals (2.38). That would usually put them at an advantage against almost any other team. But the Carolina Hurricanes allow fewer goals per game (2.05) and they aren’t that far behind in goals scored at 3.37.

The Caps are the hotter team while scorching opponents with 3.7 goals per game and allowing two goals per contest en route to a ridiculous 8-1-1 record over their last 10 matchups.

The Hurricanes are 6-3-1 over that same span while scoring 2.7 goals per game and allowing 2.3. - Smith

Canucks-Boston to win in regulation (-155)

The Canucks are a mess. There are questions throughout the organization, including on the ice. Vancouver has lost its past four games and eight of its past nine. All of those losses came in regulation. The Canucks are also 3-7-1 on the road this season.

Meanwhile, the Bruins have found a bit of a groove despite Friday's loss. They're 7-4-0 in their last 11 games and 4-2-0 in the team's last six. Nine of their 10 wins this season have come in regulation, and that should be the case tonight. - Gilbert

Top Expert O/U Picks

Bruins-Canucks Over 5 goals (-110)

The Bruins haven’t had any trouble scoring lately.

With the quartet of Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, and Charlie McAvoy leading the team, the Bruins are averaging 3.5 goals per game over their past 10 contests, and they've scored five-plus goals in four of those games. Combine that scoring prowess with the Vancouver Canucks' inability to keep the puck out of their net (allowing 3.6 goals per game over their past 10 matchups), and it's not hard to envision these two teams totaling six goals.

Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark’s inconsistent play lately is another factor. Ullmark has allowed three-plus goals three times over his last five starts, posting a sub .900 save percentage three times during that span. - Smith

Flyers-Devils Under goals (-120)

The Flyers are slumping. They’ve scored two goals or fewer in nine of their last 11 games. The club has also potted only 19 goals over that period (1.73 per game). Philadelphia has lost its last five games while producing very little offense.

However, Philadelphia's goaltending has been keeping it in games recently. That should be the case again tonight against an average Devils offense.

I would’ve taken this at Under 5.5, so I’ll take the -120 for Under 6. - Gilbert
