The Hurricanes are the -128 betting favorite for Tuesday's game, and I’m backing Rod Brind’Amour’s team to start their championship defense with a win. I’m also expecting goals galore, as has become customary recently between these Eastern Conference foes.

Panthers vs. Hurricanes prediction & best bet

The reigning Stanley Cup champions meet a team one year removed from back-to-back Cups, and it should be a doozy. I’m leaning on the Hurricanes to continue a trend of Stanley Cup winners kicking off the subsequent campaign successfully.
Defending champs won the previous four banner-raisers and have a 7-1-2 record in the last 10. Overall, the champs boast an outrageously good 63-26-16 record.
The Panthers will no doubt be back to their best this season, but the Hurricanes will enjoy a surge of adrenaline from seeing the banner lifted to the rafters.
Score prediction: Hurricanes 4, Panthers 3
Best Panthers vs. Hurricanes Over/Under bet: Over 6.5 goals
I also expect offensive fireworks, with their last four meetings averaging eight goals per game. Excluding Brad Marchand, who will be out until November at the earliest, the Panthers have a relatively clean bill of health.
Brady Tkachuk is expected to make his Panthers’ regular-season debut despite suffering an undisclosed injury in the preseason opener against the Hurricanes.
The Panthers beat the Hurricanes 6-3 in that game. While I don’t think we’ll get nine goals, I’m confident we’ll see the trend of goals galore continue.
