The Matchup

For the first time since 2013, the Titans are in Seattle. There are high expectations for this Tennessee team who acquired All-Pro wide receiver Julio Jones this offseason. However, neither Jones nor the rest of the team lived up to those expectations in week one.

Starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill connected on just 21 of 35 pass attempts on the day, with Jones amassing just 29 receiving yards. Star running back Derrick Henry also has a disappointing day, tallying just 58 rushing yards on 17 carries.

Tennessee’s defense didn’t play any better and allowed Arizona’s Kyler Murray to throw for 289 yards and four touchdowns. This isn’t a good look since they’ll have to face a more prominent quarterback in Russell Wilson.

The Seahawks opened their 2021 season on a much high note. Wide receiver Tyler Lockett had just four catches and racked up 100 receiving yards and two scores while running back Chris Carson rushed for a game-high 91 yards. Of course, Wilson showed off his elite talent and went 18 of 23 for 254 yards with four touchdowns to seal the victory for Seattle. For not playing in the preseason, Wilson ended the day with a QB rating of 152.3, which marked the second-highest of his 10-year career.

Their defense matched the offenses’ energy and limited Colts’ star rusher, Jonathan Taylor, to just 56 yards on 17 carries. They also tallied three sacks and 10 QB hits on Carson Wentz.

Prediction

Seattle’s Luman Field is regarded as one of the toughest stadiums to play in. And even more so now that fans are back. It’s going to be a struggle for Tennessee to bounce back on the road, especially with their top wideout AJ Brown dealing with a knee injury. We saw Seattle put a stop to the leagues’ third-ranked rusher last week, so relying on Derrick Henry isn’t going to save the day. The Titans will play better but don’t be surprised if they lose by a touchdown or two.
