Lions vs. Bears Odds Analysis

Bettors have noticed Chicago’s offensive improvement, betting the Bears from -1.5 up to 3-point favorites at some sportsbooks and driving the total up to 48.5 from 46. Nearly 70% of spread bets have been on the Bears, while 73% of the total handle has supported the Over.

Lions vs. Bears ATS Pick

Bears -2.5 (-120) ★★★

Chicago has lost five of its last six games, but there’s still plenty of reason for optimism in the Windy City. Fields suddenly looks like a quarterback Chicago can build around, helping his team average nearly 33 points per game in its last three outings. Last week against Miami, Fields set an NFL regular-season record for rushing yards in a game by a quarterback, scampering for 178 while adding three touchdown throws.

The Lions are coming off a 15-9 upset of Green Bay, but that result says a lot more about how bad the Packers are playing right now than how good Detroit is. Prior to that, the Lions had lost five straight games, and been outscored 81-30 in their three games on the road.

Most sportsbooks are dealing a cheap -3 on Chicago, but you could find the Bears -2.5 (-120) at DraftKings at the time of writing.

Lions vs. Bears O/U Pick

Over 48 (-110) ★★★★

After going Under the total in three of its first four games, Chicago has become an Over machine, clearing the total by seven-plus points in four of its last five. Some of that has to do with Fields’ midseason breakthrough, but the rapid decline of the Bears’ defense is also a factor. Chicago has allowed 84 points in two games since trading Pro Bowl defensive end Robert Quinn, and the linebacking corps is thin after management dealt away Roquan Smith last week.

Meanwhile, Detroit’s defense has been lit up for at least 27 points in six of its eight outings this season, the exceptions coming against Dallas (in Dak Prescott’s first game back from injury) and last week versus Green Bay — when the Packers went 0 for 4 in the red zone.

Offensively, Detroit has come back down to earth after a fast start to the season, but the Lions still rank inside the league’s top 10 in both passing yards and rushing yards. They’re also fourth in the NFL with 32 plays of 20-plus yards, and that big-play potential bodes well for a matchup with Chicago’s struggling defense.

Lions vs. Bears Prop Pick

Fields Over 58.5 rushing yards (-116)  ★★★★

This is the highest over/under of the year for Fields’ rushing yards prop, but I’m still not convinced it’s high enough. Fields has cleared his rushing yards total in seven straight games — six of those seven times by at least nine yards — as Chicago has called more and more designed runs for the pivot, and the success the offense has enjoyed using that strategy will only encourage the Bears to keep doing it.

Detroit has struggled to slow down mobile quarterbacks this year, allowing 90 rushing yards to Jalen Hurts in Week 1 and then seeing Aaron Rodgers average 10 yards a carry last week versus the Packers.
