NFL best record predictions

Cincinnati Bengals (+750 via DraftKings, FanDuel, bet365)

Bills, Eagles, Chiefs, Bengals, or 49ers - take your pick. You can discuss the Bengals' offseason acquisitions like Orlando Brown or analyze their schedule to support your choice, but all of these factors are already considered in the Bengals' projected win total. Right now, these teams are closely grouped at the top without a clear distinction.

In terms of pricing, the Bengals find themselves in the middle at +750, while the Chiefs are at +450 with the 49ers at +900. After competing in playoff games on the road in Buffalo and Kansas City last season, it's possible that the Bengals will be more aggressive in their pursuit of the No. 1 seed this year. Additionally, they have a relatively manageable schedule early on, facing the Rams, Titans, and Cardinals in Weeks 3 through 6. That's why I'm eyeing their +750 odds early in the process because if you don't place your bet now, it might slip away from you.

San Francisco 49ers (+1000 via FanDuel, BetMGM)

Brock Purdy

All reports suggest that quarterback Brock Purdy is trending in the right direction to be the 49ers' starting QB by Week 1. If that’s the case, the market might be underrating a San Francisco squad coming off a 13-4 campaign in which three different quarterbacks saw the field.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense is desperate for some continuity at the most important position, and Purdy can give them that after a surprising rookie season. The 49ers have made the NFC Championship Game three times over the last four years, posting a trio of double-digit win seasons in the process.

I’m projecting right around 11 wins for San Francisco this season, suggesting there is some value in the team’s win total (10.5) at this time. But this 10/1 price tag is enticing on a team that can pile up a lot of victories while playing in a weak NFC and even weaker NFC West division.

Philadelphia Eagles (+800 via FanDuel)

There's little debate that the AFC is the tougher conference of the two. But not only will the Bengals, Bills, and Chiefs play one another again in 2023, they're all division winners and will play first-place schedules. They'll also have to deal with stiffer competition within the conference, with future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, head coach Sean Payton, and All-Pro corner Jalen Ramsey joining the fray. I believe the best teams in the AFC will cannibalize wins.

The path is much clearer in the NFC. The Philadelphia Eagles and 49ers are head and shoulders above the rest. A surprise team would have to emerge from the field to challenge the status quo in the conference.

Though it enters the season with the toughest strength of schedule, Philly also opens the season against the New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Washington Commanders. Grab this price now, it's likely you won't see it again.

Buffalo Bills (+950 via FanDuel)

The Bills finished with the third-best record in 2022, though they tied with the Chiefs and Eagles in the loss column (three), and one of their games was canceled due to Damar Hamlin’s injury.

There was trouble in paradise earlier during the offseason when receiver Stefon Diggs missed the first day of mandatory minicamp and reportedly expressed displeasure regarding his role in the offense, according to Ben Volin of The Boston Globe. It’s a situation to monitor, but Diggs would be far from the first receiver to be unhappy but still perform at a high level.

And Diggs is one of several high-end talents on an offense with its core still together after the unit finished second in points (28.4) and yards (397.6) per game in 2022. Quarterback Josh Allen is still soaring high after throwing for 35 touchdown passes while adding another seven on the ground with 762 rushing yards.

The ingredients are here to mount a stiff challenge to the Chiefs again and finally clear that hurdle.

Editor’s note: Best odds for Buffalo to finish with the best record are +900 via FanDuel and BetMGM as of Aug. 16.
