🎾 French Open Prediction 2026: Diana Shnaider vs. Maja Chwalinska Semifinal Best Bets
Last Updated: June 3, 2026 12:14 PM EDT • 3 minute read X Social Google News Link
After both No. 25 seed Diana Shnaider and qualifier Maja Chwalinska each won their respective quarterfinals in surprising fashion, the two meet Thursday morning, each looking to add to their best Grand Slam results yet, with a place in the French Open final on the line.
My French Open prediction for the Shnaider vs. Chwalinska semifinal backs the seeded Russian, who has more experience on the big stage. Shnaider is a -175 betting favorite, given her more prominent clay-court success, which is also reflected in her coming off a win against the No. 1-ranked player in the world, Aryna Sabalenka. The tennis world will be treated to a fascinating tilt between two lesser-known players.

🆚 Diana Shnaider vs. Maja Chwalinska pick to win
Here's my pick to win the French Open women's semifinal, and why I'm choosing Shnaider:
Diana Shnaider ML (-128)
To ignore Chwalinska's chances simply because she came through qualifying would be naive, considering she has beaten the likes of Elise Mertens, Maria Sakkari, Diane Parry, and Anna Kalinskaya to get to this point. However, it is fair to wonder how much more she can bear after needing an additional three wins just to get into the main draw, and then surviving the Paris heat wave for the last two weeks.
Shnaider's semifinal appearance is not nearly a shock in comparison, considering she had the seventh-best odds (+2000) to come out of her quarter despite not owning a top-10 win over the previous calendar year. She showed tremendous resolve in rallying from a 3-6, 1-4 deficit and being two points away from defeat in the quarterfinal matchup against four-time Grand Slam champion (and last year's French Open runner-up) Aryna Sabalenka.
Shnaider's clay-court success is highlighted by her 2024 Olympic silver medal in doubles, and her winning 10 consecutive games against the World No. 1 should do wonders for her confidence in this match.
🔥 Best Diana Shnaider vs. Maja Chwalinska prop pick
Shnaider to win 2 sets to 1 (+300)
The only meeting between these two players came back in 2022 on clay in Istanbul, which Shnaider won 6-4, 6-4. While Chwalinska has never been ranked higher than 113th before this miracle run, she has seemingly come a long way since losing as a qualifier to Shnaider four years ago, enough to take one set here.
If Chwalinska is to take a set, her best bet is winning the opener, given that she has spent more than five hours longer on court during this Roland Garros run than her counterpart. Conversely, Shnaider has saved her best tennis for the deciding set, bageling both Sabalenka and No. 19 Madison Keys in the third set in consecutive matches.
While Sabalenka helped Shnaider out with 50-plus unforced errors, Chwalinska has shown enough consistency while winning seven of her eight Roland Garros matches in straight sets, three against top-50 opponents.
