We have a massive 16-game slate on Wednesday, and we're offering our top MLB player props and best bets based on the best MLB odds.

Mother Nature got the best of another matchup on Tuesday, as the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox were forced to postpone their game at Guaranteed Rate Field. However, Tuesday's loss is Wednesday's gain with the two teams engaging in a doubleheader.

The action started with the San Francisco Giants and Miami Marlins at loanDepot park, and it rolled on with another chapter in the AL East battle between the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. Those two got things underway at 3:07 p.m. ET, with the World Series odds-contender Yankees trying to avoid the three-game sweep.

Finally, we finish Wednesday's action and head into getaway day with a 7:10 p.m. ET showdown between the Cleveland Guardians and Boston Red Sox from Fenway Park. The Red Sox are struggling after a hot start, while the Guardians own the best record in baseball so far.

Here are our MLB player props and best bets for Wednesday (MLB picks based on odds via our best MLB betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Jake Irvin Under 4.5 strikeouts (-106 via BetRivers) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Let's just put it this way: Jake Irvin is the type of pitcher who, despite being the announced starter, wasn't even available at most of our best sports betting sites when I woke up this morning. But then his props were listed, and, as expected, we found value on the Under.

Irvin has just 14 strikeouts across 17 innings (three starts) this season, and following his best start of the season against the lowly Oakland Athletics, he's rewarded with this matchup against the behemoth Los Angeles Dodgers, fully stocked with three MLB MVP odds favorites.

Irvin is projected to record only 3.9 strikeouts on Wednesday, more than a full K below what he'd need to go Over this total. Based on that projection, we're getting nearly 26% positive expected value through BetRivers' -106 odds.

As mentioned, it took a bit of time for Irvin to be listed. However, when Pinnacle - which features one of the most respected trading teams in the sports betting industry - did list his strikeout prop at 8:53 a.m. ET, it opened at +103. Fifteen minutes later, the Under had been smashed to -152.

Tanner Houck Under 4.5 strikeouts (+100 via BetMGM) ⭐⭐⭐

Game info: Guardians vs. Red Sox | Moneyline: Red Sox (-135 via Betway) | Total: Over 8.5 (-125)/Under 8.5 (+105) via Betway | Start time: 7:10 p.m. ET

Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck started the season red-hot, much like his teammates. He recorded 17 strikeouts across 12 innings (two starts), and he didn't allow a run. However, in his last appearance, Tanner gave up 12 hits and seven runs (four earned), and he struck out only two.

Houck now squares off with the Cleveland Guardians, who own the seventh-best strikeout rate in the majors to go along with their seventh-best wRC+. Between Cleveland's surprisingly strong offense and Boston's recent inability to make even the most routine plays, Houck could be in for a long (or actually, short) night.

Houck is projected for just 4.34 strikeouts on Wednesday, making this a 13.4% +EV bet based on these +100 odds at BetMGM. Now, that doesn't quite meet my criteria to make this a four-star pick, but you can see these odds are significantly better than those at some of our other best sports betting apps.

Additionally, Pinnacle's Under is trading at -137 after opening at +112, showing us there's been sharp action on our side.

Brandon Pfaadt Under 5.5 strikeouts (+120 via PointsBet) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Game info: Cubs vs. Diamondbacks | Moneyline: Diamondbacks (-130 via Betway) | Total: Over 8.5 (-125)/Under 8.5 (+105) via Betway | Start time: 3:40 p.m. ET

Playoff Brandon Pfaadt is an absolute demon on the mound, as we saw last year when he recorded a 3.27 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 10.6 strikeouts per nine over 22 postseason innings. However, Regular-Season Pfaadt leaves much to be desired.

Following a 2023 campaign during which he managed just 8.81 K/9 en route to an inflated 5.72 ERA, Pfaadt owns a 6.48 ERA through three starts, striking out 17 in 16 2/3 innings.

On Wednesday, Pfaadt faces a Chicago Cubs team that sits just outside the top 10 in strikeout rate, and it owns the fifth-highest walk rate in the league, which could help drive up the right-hander's pitch count.

Pfaadt's average projection from three of our trusted models is 5.19, and all three are very much aligned on his expected strikeouts, with totals of 5.14, 5.16, and 5.26. Even the high end of those would provide us with plenty of value on this Under. As it stands, we're getting roughly 30% +EV on this bet when we run our projection against PointsBet's +120 odds.

As you can see, a number of our best sportsbooks have Pfaadt's total listed at 6.5 with the Under heavily juiced. However, if you're looking for the best comparison in terms of the value we're getting on this number, look no further than FanDuel's +100 odds on Under 5.5.
