Both No. 23 Texas A&M and No. 10 LSU are coming off disappointing losses as favorites, but my Texas A&M vs. LSU early prediction agrees with the line movement compared to the opening odds that the Tigers are the right side to cover as home favorites.

It’s a night game at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night (ABC). LSU is a 9.5-point betting favorite.

Lane Kiffin and his LSU Tigers need to quickly get over an emotional game and atmosphere with the head coach’s return to Oxford if they want to avoid an 0-2 conference start. But I’m not jumping off the LSU bandwagon after its loss to Ole Miss, as one could argue it was supposed to lose that game (Lane Kiffin is now 1-9 as a head coach in road games versus AP top-10 teams).

Facing Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss is good preparation for the athleticism the Tigers will see out of Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed. Reed and Chambliss were two of three SEC quarterbacks to throw for 3,000-plus yards and rush for at least 550 yards (not including sacks) last year. But Reed is also prone to bone-headed plays (he had the third-most interceptions among SEC quarterbacks) and had the league’s second-worst catchable ball rate.

The value for this line would be diminished at double-digits, but I’m confidently backing the Tigers at anything short of that.

In less than 24 hours, LSU was steamed up from an opening line of -8 to -9.5 across all of the best sports betting sites. Sharp action is likely the biggest driving factor for the line movement, as the Tigers were only getting a slight majority (56%) of early wagers as of Sunday night.

I’d imagine that the betting public will continue to be more forgiving of LSU for its close road loss at Ole Miss than it will be to Texas A&M after a 10-point home loss to Kentucky. A move to -10 or higher is likely, so I’m rushing to the betting windows before that happens.
