My UTSA vs. Texas prediction doesn’t anticipate any sort of letdown for freshly No. 1 Texas after climbing to the top of the rankings with last week’s comeback win over Ohio State.
With Texas favored by 30 points, the action kicks off from Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, Saturday at 8 p.m. ET (SECN+).

Texas -30 (-108 via BetMGM)
With some early-season transitive property results to reference, it appears that UTSA is a more challenging foe than Texas dispatched in its earlier 59-7 win over Texas State. The Roadrunners handled the Bobcats on the road, 31-26.
Still, Texas doesn’t need to clear UTSA by that same 52-point margin to cover this spread. The Longhorns took their sweet time getting the offense going last weekend, but Ohio State’s defense is a much tougher nut to crack compared to what Texas will face this weekend.
UTSA ranks 87th in FPI’s adjusted defensive efficiency. After eventually coming to understand what works against an elite defense in last week’s second half, this Saturday should feel like scrimmage mode for Texas.
While most of the market features this line at Texas -30.5, I was able to bet Texas -30 with attractive -108 odds from BetMGM on Friday afternoon. In the event that the edge from BetMGM disappears, we would still play this line at -30.5.
📡 SBR EDGE
Texas’ 9th-ranked adjusted offensive efficiency might prioritize openings on the ground this week after UTSA’s run defense permitted its only FBS opponent, Texas State, to run for 289 yards against it.
If UTSA QB continues to limit mistakes, Roadrunners can add to total
Might UTSA pack more of a punch offensively than the seven points Texas State posted against the Texas defense? In theory, it’s plausible, as the Roadrunners rate more favorably by offensive metrics (67th in FPI’s adjusted offensive efficiency).
Behind clean play from QB Owen McCown, the UTSA offense hasn’t turned the ball over yet through two games. A moderately clean effort in the category could lead to a couple of stray scoring chances if Texas calls off the dogs late, which could help Over betters get to their lofty total of 58.5 (best odds at publish are -105, from FanDuel and bet365).
Score prediction: Texas 48, UTSA 13
