The Tennessee Volunteers are the most popular long-shot bet to win the College Football Playoff National Championship at BetMGM.

Tennessee is listed at +10000 to win it all this season, and the Vols have received 3.2 percent of betting tickets and 2.1 percent of the betting handle.

After an underwhelming 7-6 showing last season, which included a loss in the Transperfect Music City Bowl to the Purdue Boilermakers, Tennessee would obviously need a tremendous change in fortunes to even make the College Football Playoffs – let alone win the National Championship.

Still, the Volunteers are expected to have one of the most exciting offenses in the country under second-year head coach Josh Heupel, and with dual-threat quarterback Hendon Hooker also in his second season commanding the offense.

Hooker didn’t even begin the season as the starting quarterback, and he still accumulated 2,945 passing yards and 31 touchdowns while also rushing for another 616 yards and five scores. He’s currently +5000 to win the Heisman Trophy this season and has received the seventh most betting tickets to earn the honor.

Additionally, Tennessee finished ninth in points per game last year with 38.8, and the Vols were a perfect 7-0 when they scored 35 or more during the regular season.

Before you turn your amp up to 11, though, bear in mind that Tennessee is trading at +10000 for a reason. It's currently outside the Associated Press Top-25 Rankings, and the defense remains a serious question mark after allowing a combined 251 points across its six losses last year.

As a result, bettors can probably expect plenty of high-scoring shootouts and potentially inflated Over/Under totals in Vols' games this season.
