Las Vegas-based SuperBook Sports is continuing its rapid expansion plans with an announced launch in its ninth state, Virginia. SuperBook's mobile product makes 16 apps that are now available for the state’s residents to download.

SuperBook has been an active member of the Nevada sports betting scene since 1986 and brings not only an exciting mobile platform to the Virginia market, but years of experience catering to U.S.-based bettors.

“We couldn’t be happier with our continued growth. We are thrilled to be live in Virginia and feel confident that we have a great product with a strong history that will become a fast favorite of sports bettors in the region. Sports fans in the region can find all their favorite teams and get in the action with some of the best sports traditions in the country,” said SuperBook Sports’ CEO and Managing Partner, Mark Lipparelli.

The SuperBook Virginia sports betting app is now available for download for both Android and iOS devices in Virginia. Users can also find desktop version of their Virginia sports betting app at SuperBook.com.

Why Virginia?

Virginia has been one of the most consistent and reliable U.S. legal sports betting markets in the country. It is not on the same level as New York, New Jersey, or Illinois, but the state continues to maintain a top-15 spot in terms of monthly wagering activity in the U.S. market.

According to SuperBook Executive Vice President of Race & Sports Book Operations Jay Kornegay: “Going live in Virginia is a perfect complement to our quickly growing business in Maryland. With our heritage and the passion that fans bring in that area, it is sure to be a great fit. We pride ourselves on our expansive menu and will have great offerings for everything from the Commanders to the Ravens and the Nationals to our proud partners, the Orioles.”

Virginia has had just one sub-$300 million sports betting handle month in the last 12 - that being the bottoming-out month of July. Sportsbook gross revenues in the state have been above the $32 million mark every month since February 2022.

Despite not getting the buzz of some of the other legal sports betting jurisdictions in the country, Virginia is a healthy market with obvious room for one more provider - SuperBook being that lucky one.

The growth trajectory

SuperBook, one of the largest and most respected legal sports betting names you’ve never heard of in the American market has been on a solid growth trajectory the last year. Virginia marks the fourth market it has entered since October 2022. The others include Maryland sports betting, Ohio sports betting, and Iowa sports betting.

Prior to that, SuperBook had a presence in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Jersey, and Tennessee.

The move to Virginia appears to continue a pattern of the provider targeting large and promising legal state markets to launch its brand. All of the nine states in which SuperBook is live happen to consistently be in the top half of the most successful sports betting markets in the country.

Continuing to get its name out there

As mentioned, SuperBook isn't the most recognized name in the broad U.S. legal sports betting industry for the average user ... but it is among the favorite, go-to operators for experienced gamblers.

Perhaps the biggest challenge for SuperBook is to get its name out there to compete with higher-profile Virginia sports betting apps like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars.

Targeting the biggest and most successful legal sports betting jurisdictions in the country will hopefully help with that. Getting its name in the U.S. legal sports betting headlines as it has with the Virginia launch will also help the company gain some exposure during its time of U.S. expansion.
