Atlanta Braves designated hitter Orlando Arcia had yet to hit a home run this season. But that did not dissuade a bettor at DraftKings Sportsbook from live-betting an Arcia home run in his ninth-inning plate appearance against the Boston Red Sox Wednesday.

A $114 wager, at +3000, paid out a net of $3,420 after Arcia lofted a shot to deep left field off of Boston Red Sox reliever Ryan Brasier, giving the Braves a 5-3 win.

Arcia is a 27-year-old shortstop who came up with the Milwaukee Brewers and played there from 2016 into the 2021 season before getting traded to the Braves in April of 2021. He does have 45 home runs in 1,991 career plate appearances, so while he is not going to be mistaken for Mike Trout, he does have some pop at the plate. After all, he did hit 15 home runs in both the 2017 and 2019 seasons.

Still, picking an exact plate appearance for an Arcia home run is a bold play and it ultimately paid off. Maybe it was just a function of facing the Red Sox, a team that has been collapsing late in close games this season.
