Cowboys vs Buccaneers Preview

Tampa Bay will have home-field advantage as the winners of the NFC South, despite sitting one game below .500 with a worse record than three teams that failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Cowboys are favored by 2.5-points, with the total set at 45.5.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers remain without more than two consecutive wins this season after losing to the Atlanta Falcons 30-17 in Week 18. A Super Bowl requires four consecutive wins — which seems unlikely given their record this season, but it would be foolish to underestimate the postseason abilities of Tom Brady. Tampa Bay relies heavily on the passing game, ranking second in passing yards compared to dead last in rushing yards. Brady has taken a step back this season but has two wide receivers with over 1,000 yards in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

Dallas Cowboys

The playoffs have been a miserable time for Cowboys fans in recent memory. The team has failed to make it past the divisional round since their 1995-96 Super Bowl victory and was eliminated in the Wild Card round last season. They are favored to win, but the Buccaneers look like an even matchup when comparing rosters despite significant differences in their records.

The Cowboys have run a balanced offense between rushing and passing with no shortage of weapons on either side. Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard will share the backfield, and Daulton Shultz should continue to get plenty of opportunities with the defenses heavily focused on top receiver CeeDee Lamb.

The Buccaneers have now defeated the Cowboys in two consecutive matchups, including a 19-3 victory to open the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Eastern Time.
