Davis Cup Go Soeda - Ivan Dodig Pick:Go Soeda @ 2 [+100] Why: Soeda had an impressive start of the season. Semifinal in Chennai starting from the qualies and losing only one set, beating the same Dodig 7-6 6-3. Then lost in AO qualies probably very tired for the indian experience. Last week played and won Honolulu Challenger dropping only one set. Not the same for Ivan, 3/4 so far, one set lost with Vardhan, retire at AO then defeated Ilhan and Garcia-Lopez in Zagreb, but I saw his last match with Baghdatis and it was very discontinued and never solid with serve. Soeda seems to suffer more players who stay behind and rally from outsider, and Dodig is not that kind of player. Last, don't forget the home advantage, with Japan that can really do well this time with the explosion of Nishikori and a good team on the whole. Stats: Soeda 12W/2L in 2012, Dodig 3/4
Pattaya City Su-Wei Hsieh - Sania Mirza Pick:Su-Wei Hsieh @ 1.8 [-125] Why: Seems the same motivation for the Soeda match, Hsieh had a good start this year. She is playing a good tournament: four wins, all with asian players, all in straight sets. Jie Zheng and Date Krumm are the last two. Mirza dropped one set to Morita and had fight to win in 2 with Keothavong today. She has not many variations in her game and if the chinese stills solid as we can assume from her results, she may take it. Stats: 7/2 Hsieh in 2012, 2/2 for Mirza
Thanks mate.
What do you think of Tanasugarn +150 with Kirilenko? Seems playing better, plays at home and Maria won only 7-6 at third with Rodionova today.

Seen a few people suggest that one. Tanasugarn seems to amp her game up for these Far East tournaments. Price seems to suggest the books think it's possible because Kirilenko is a superior player to her on most days.

Treble Wickmayer - Barthel, Sharapova - Kerber, Berdych - Bolelli Pick:Barthel, Sharapova, Berdych @ 1.91 [-110] Why: Well not much to say about Berdych and Sharapova. Other level for the first, won't have problems. The second defeated Kerber at AO and the german did so many mistakes today with Niculescu, will be easy for Maria.
The true pick here is Barthel over Wickmayer. Saw her for the first time today; very easy shots, good attitude and great shape: 16 wins in 2012, 14 2 sets to 0, two only loss with Lisicki and the new N. 1 Azarenka. In Hobart Final Barthel d. Wickmayer 6-1 6-2, not even one month ago.

That's the same I think. I'll probably pass this.

Wow, Soeda came back from 2 sets down and won 7-5 at the fifth! Nice way to start the day (and the thread)

Is this the comeback day? 5-3 Mirza in the first, had set point on 5-4 but Hsieh won 7-5 6-3.
2-0 so far, let's wait for Barthel, Maria and Tomas.

Nice work. I went to bed with Soeda down and out ... great rally and in retrospect it's the only reason Japan is still alive against Croatia since Nishikori got crushed by Karlovic.

Thank you.
When Soeda was down I woke up lol.
Still don't understand why Japan choose to play in indoor courts against one like Ivo. Would have been a tricky move to chose clay for this match, but maybe they had not the right structure, but at least hard outdoor would have been better for them. Double will decide everything i think, hope for you Japan wins it.

Totally agreed. Guessing they didn't have a good venue for it. Then again you look at a lot of these Davis Cup picks of surface and it's odd. Germany choosing clay against Argentina I think was the dumbest choice.

The choker of the day? Maria Sharapova!
Up 4-2 0-30 in the first, lost 6-4;
Up 3-1 AD-40 in the second, is 4-5 and will lose for sure.

And just to not contradict herself, lost a calm game up 30-15 on 4-5, well done Maria.
Well 2-1 it's not bad, thinking about taking Vinci over Bartoli but don't know yet.

Open GDF Suez Roberta Vinci - Marion Bartoli Pick:Roberta Vinci @ 3.75 [+275] Why: Sorry if it's too late. There is some value in Vinci odd for me. Saw Bartoli yesterday and she had some problem with Martic and only with a good attention in important points she did not complicate her match.
We all know how much Bartoli suffers lateral movements and Roberta has the play to move her a lot. The slice backhand of the italian should even break the rhythm to Marion, and with some tricky shots she really can make the french crazy, but she has to play very well from the start to the end. Stats: Australian Open 2006: Vinci won 6-4 3-6 6-3

Can't believe my eyes:
Vinci was 0-40 in second serve turn of Bartoli, did not break;
Vinci was 15-40 in third serve turn of Bartoli, did not break;
Vinci was 15-40 in fourth serve turn, did not break;
I've already seen this movie: Bartoli will break at her first break point, let's see if I'm wrong.

Look up, I took Barthel in a parlay with Berdych and Sharapova, already lost because of Maria.

Please Vinci don't do this to me.
6-4 3-0 and serve lost 6-4 the second. 5-2 and serve in the third is 5-4 now and just miss an easy point.

Bartoli breaks at 0, with the help of the net and especially of the Vinci. Now
Vinci won't win this anymore.

Never seen a player losing a match two times already won, one time won yes, but two never. 6-4 *3-0 and 6-4 4-6 *5-2.
Could be a great day but Vinci destroyed it.

Dallas Challenger Jesse Levine - Steve Darcis Pick:Jesse Levine @ 2.1 [+110] Why: Levine is serving really well here. He plays at home and on his favourite surface; he is 70/23 on indoor career. I really like Darcis, saw him live at the Challenger of my hometown 4-5 years ago and I always liked his way of playing, but is pretty incostant, especially mentally, and I pick Levine who seemed very focused on the important moments of his matches. Stats: Levine leads head to head 2-0

Bergamo Challenger Claudio Grassi - Uladzimir Ignatik Pick:Claudio Grassi @ 3.75 [+275] Why: Grassi is 10/2 in this season so far, he plays at home and I can guarantee italian players give so much in their home challenger events. Ignatik has just won the only two matches of his 2012 in this week-end against Moldavia in Davis Cup. The trip won't be a great problem for him I think, but from the other side Grassi is practicing on the tournament courts from days and is more ready to play. Won't be easy, but the odd deserves an attempt. Stats: Grassi 12W/2L in 2012, Ignatik 2/3

Double Jie Zheng - Maria Kirilenko, Flavia Pennetta - Dominika Cibulkova Pick:Zheng, Pennetta @ 2.3 [+130] Why: Head to head between Jie and Maria are not in doubt. 5-1 for the chinese and the last win of Kirilenko dates US Open 2003. Zheng has not played well in last matches, but I think it's because of his great start of season that drain her a lot. Back-to-front, Kirilenko did Final last week in Pattaya, the trip to Qatar is pretty long and probably she has not come here in perfect shape.
Pennetta is better than Cibulkova for me. She retired just against Zheng in first tournament of the season for a problem to the back, that's way she lost badly to Bratchikova at AO. But now seems ok, played doubles with Schiavone yesterday and so she had a feel on this courts yet. Pennetta won last 4 head to head in a row and Cibulkova is not doing well, losing from Arn, Razzano and Keothavong in last matches. Stats: Peng leads head to head 5-1 (3-1 on hard), Pennetta leads head to head 4-1 (3-0 on hard)

Double David Nalbandian - Benoit Paire, Ivan Navarro-Pastor - Andrey Golubev Pick:David Nalbandian, Andrey Golubev @ 1.77 [-129] Why: David played only Australian Open so far, but seems a good Nalbandian who took Isner to fifth set. Now he goes on the clay, where he played two days ago, and play very well defeating F. Mayer 3-1 in Davis. Paire is not to undervalue, is a growing up player and his best number, could be strange, are on clay. But he played exclusively on hard since now and that is a good advantage for the argentine, who will take this if plays focused and then can even do a very good tournament here.
What about Golubev? Well, if you hear his name recently you think to an incostant player with no great result from many months, but the fifth set win with Youzhny at AO make me think this player still have some shots and can't certainly lose to Navarro-Pastor who has a very poor record on indoor. Plus he practice and train on Italy, near Bergamo, it's like a hometown tournament for him. Stats: Navarro-Pastor record on indoor (24W/49L)
