Right after Fernando picked up his first point of the game, he gets into a minute-long rally with Rafa... and Nadal saves a smash (or two??) and two drop shots - every single play worthy of a weekly 'Top 10 ATP plays of the week - before finally surrendering the point to Verdasco.

The runner up then drops to his knees and makes a 'Thank you, Lord!!!' gesture. It's like he was the old version of Terminator, who finally found a chink in T2's armor

The Monaco Country Club public, Prince Albert included, gave the pair a standing ovation.

I laughed my ass off.

Russell lost but it was worth the price. Today is the exact reason why I don't wager a lot in early rounds of minor tournaments. Too many upsets Too hard to tell how motivated some players are and you see a lot of upsets. In first and second rounds the smart play is either plus money or no play.
