I anticipated Venus winning the second which she is right now- Woznacki calling her coach out (Which was always one of the #1 reasons I thought she couldn't win a major - besides some other stuff) and coming out and winning the third.

Eages, what did you like about the Halep match over? Halep as been rolling through people? For the record I am on the over as well because of my system, but I had great hesitation. Looking like my gut was right. BOL to us.

I couldn't do it based off a system - I only go with a system when me and the system feel the same way- I went against V. Williams -108 and I should have went with it - Good night hope Nish wins and for you Dmitrov cashes which I wouldn't have went against.

Halep hadn't been playing unbeatable, was more a product of inferior opponent IMO. But same again today + better play.

Brutally close match between Nish and Rao. Nish gave away a couple of absolute bunnies in the second and third tiebreakers, not only the double fault in the second but he had an easy forehand winner up at the net that he just unnecessarily ripped long that would have got him back on serve; instead, gave the set to Rao. And then the mini-break he gave up in the third was on an even more egregious wide open entire court forehand at the net that he just ripped wide.

Unusually tight play from Nish. Frustrating.

ATP Sydney
The story of this tournament will be Juan Martin Del Potro, no doubt about it. Most of the bigger names played either in Doha or Brisbane last week and opt to skip this week in prep for the Australian Open. Del Potro got better each match last year in Sydney en route to the title. While winning a title probably isn't tops on his list this week, it's not all that unlikely if he is healthy. The field is fairly weak with Fabio Fognini as the top seed, David Goffin as the 2nd seed and Kohlschreiber and Benneteau rounding out the top four seeds. Seeds five through eight include Leonardo Mayer, Pablo Cuevas, Jeremy Chardy and Martin Klizan. This looks to be a wide open tournament.

Non-Seeds Excel
In 2014, both Sergiy Stakhovsky and Bernard Tomic made the semifinals of this tournament as non-seeded players. Stakhobsky ran all the way through qualifying into the semis. Qualifiers went 2-2 in their opening main draw matches in Sydney last year. In 2013, three of the four semifinalists were not seeded. In 2012, all four semifinalists were not seeded with two qualifiers making it. In 2011, there were two more unseeded semifinalists. See the trend?

Being his first match, I'm not so sure. Also these are dubs partners, so a lot of times you don't know how that will factor into play. He'll probably win, but I don't think it's going to be easy. Struff has the serve to stick with him if he keeps it solid.

Productive start to the week. I don't know that I have made this many WTA bets in a long time. Usually the first couple weeks are the best feel I have for those headcases, gets progressively harder I think which is why I usually switch back to ATP exclusively at some point.

Interesting. Why do you think it gets harder?

I think some of the lines aren't as sharp because there is no pattern for lines people to follow other than last season or their perception. Health info seems more readily discussed too. Because of that, I guess I find more attractive plays early as books adjust more slowly. Serena was a perfect example. She said she felt void of energy match after match, yet books still gave good odds to take her opponent +1.5 Sets in each match.

Good points. I feel as though Serena would be one of the least bet on players, at least for those that follow and bet on tennis regularly.

Gone are the days getting the field for close to even money when Serena is in a tourney.

Yeah I've experienced too much of that with him in the last year or so, so definitely just not even paying attention to him from this point forward.
