I think we err in thinking there is extra motivation for Player A when Player B loses. Maybe if it was some guy who had never won before and was facing the prospect of playing the top dog, but even then you should have a staff around you that doesn't let you think like that. A veteran player should never be looking ahead and I think rarely will at this stage. You take care of Job #1, winning today regardless of what happened in the first match. BY our logic, wouldn't Cilic be just as motivated then because he doesn't have to play Djokovic if he wins? So would be play better or worse because ot that?
