Hedge on Steps some. Both playing well, but Lopez margin for error seems smaller. His serve has been great, but I wonder if it holds up for two more rounds.

#2280ATP Eastbourne Mini-View
An intriguing field continues the short grass court season in Eastbourne this week. Felciano Lopez is your defending Champion and he comes in off a solid week in London where he lost in a tough three set Final to Dimitrov. Lopez is the #3 seed with Gasquet serving as the top seed, Dolgopolov as the 2nd and Garcia-Lopez rounding out the top four in a wide open draw. Of this year's top eight seeds, Gasquet and Karlovic are multiple-time winners at Eastbourne and Lopez also has a title. Giraldo and Delbonis who are seeded 7th and 8th are making their debuts here.
With this being a "tweener" tournament where a lot of the big boys played last week and are off this week in preps for Wimbledon, upsets are large among the seeded players. Last year, five of the top eight seeds dropped their 1st matches. That was the 3rd straight year that at least four seeds lost their 1st matches. Definitely take a look at the match-ups and if there's a lack of motivation, the non-seed might be your best bet.
Seeded Upsets
Tomic/Golubev over #1 Gasquet
Tomic would be the definite look at an upset. Gasquet lost his 1st match last week on grass and with his back maybe a bigger concern than grabbing a win - there's a definite upset possibility of the top seed.
Istomin/Kukushikin over #4 Garcia-Lopez
Garcia-Lopez was a surprising semifinalist in the Dutch grass tournament last season, but generally is a so-so player on the surface. Both Istomin and Kukushkin have the chops to win.
Evans/Kamke over #3 Lopez
Although Lopez carries great form and played extremely solid tennis here last year to win the title, the motivation after a long week at Queens Club could be low. Neither Evans nor Kamke is exactly a great threat on this surface, but given the quick turnaround there is a possibility that Lopez doesn't have much to play for this week.
Querrey/Edmund over #2 Dolgopolov
A right thigh injury forced Dolgopolov from Queens Club last week. With a Grand Slam up next week, I imagine the desire this week won't be much more than getting through healthy. Definite possibility that Dog may not play this week. Querrey looked good in London for a couple rounds before Wawrinka steamrolled him. Edmund did beat De Schepper here last year and played Simon tough, so he's not totally lost if he's in position to play Dolgopolov.
Quarters Breakdown
Gasquet Quarter
With Gasquet still a question mark now with a possible shoulder problem on top of the back issue, this could be a shot for a darkhorse. Keep an eye on Tomic
Garcia-Lopez Quarter
Roger-Vaselin is an intriguing non-seed in this section. He was solid at Queens Club and this is the sort of small tournament where he thrives from time-to-time. If Garcia-Lopez can avoid an upset in his first match, he might be a seed who makes it through.
Lopez Quarter
I would be surprised to see max effort from Lopez after going a long week at Queens Club. He'd be better served to get a little rest in, but he's certainly dangerous on the surface. Karlovic as the seed on top of the quarter will be one to watch. His serve is good enough to get through this quarter, but as usual the margin for error is small.
Dolgopolov Quarter
Another injury issue as Dog comes in with a thigh issue. Lu is another injury risk after withdrawing from Halle last week after a nice little run. That leaves Simon as , a Finalist in 2013 and in as the 6th seed this year. and maybe Sam Querrey as others to watch here if Lopez has no interest.
Futures Watch (No Prices Yet)
Roger-Vasselin
Tomic
Karlovic
*The prices should be pretty nice as picking a substantial favorite this week is impossible given the injuries and all.

#2286Obviously if 5dimes doesn't post lines, then those picks above are void. The good thing is that none are in the 1st starts, so perhaps the lines will be up to book. Smith, Gojo & Groth are all among the third start times which is estimated at 9am ET, so they damn well oughta be up. Fischer is 7:30am ET.Comment -

#2291I didn't say he would say fukk it, but given the points he gained last week and what is coming up. I don't think those points are a priority concern. He did push last year, but I think he did that pushing for a seed at Wimbledon. He has that already this year. Also a bitter loss Sunday. If I recall, he was up a break in the 3rd and blew it. Easily a winnable tournament if he wants it, I just see less reason to push this year for him. Just my thoughts.Comment -

#2299Pretty reasonable. I think in the right spot, Muller is a good fade - but that does not seem like today with this opponent. Maybe next round when they go best of 5, which I LOVE about Wimbledon. I think all Slams should do that for the last quali round.
You get a good check for getting into the main draw, you should earn it.Comment -

#2302Broke even on the day. Split the Eastbourne picks, but hit the parlay which helped. 1-2 on the qualis. Two third set losers and Fischer fought hard to win 9-7 in the 3rd.
Reminder: Last round of qualis at Wimbledon is Best of 5.Comment -

#2304It's not a definitive yay or nay point that they have to win three sets instead of two, just something to think about. Experience is something to weigh maybe more than fitness. Guys who have been through Slams - either main draw or completing a qualifying run, especially at Wimbledon could have an edge over someone who has not.
Fitness honestly - the weather is cool. Unless there is an injury or track record, I wouldn't worry about it. They came here hoping to make the main draw where they would be prepared to do what they have to do in the last qualifying round.Comment -
