Or some of the ones you know have lied about never going broke at least once.
I doubt many people that are real pros have never gone broke at least once.
Like they say most gamblers are liars too , like hardly anyone on this forum ever losesComment -

Talking about proffesional gamblers not all gamblers.
Read about how many businesses fail , and you think that gambling is a better risk than opening a business.Comment -

#77This post hit home! I fund each season with a set ammount. If I lose I'm done. I lived the life of having my paycheck go to the bookmaker on Tuesday evening and living off of mac and cheese the rest of the week.
Its not fun! The motto I've developed of myself is "Be careful with sports betting it can get you into big trouble". It is a rule I keep for myself at all tmes.
Good post mac and Dark Horse as well.
To put things into perspective we also need to look at how much we're funding our gambling accounts. If you make $100,000 how much should you gamble per year? 50%, 10%, 5%??? Well how much do you save? If you gamble more than you save then your misguided. How much do you put away in a retirement fund? 401K plan? etc.? If your not saving at least 10% of your income for retirement than your taking stupid chances. Do you really think social security will be there when you retire? If you do then you also believe in the Easter Bunny. Your first responsibility is to take care of your home, make sure you pay your bills, don't credit anything and don't get in debt. Once you do that, save at least 10% of your income towards retirement, an additional 10% for rainy days (like if you get fired). You must set your financial priorities. At least 20% of your money should be saved for you. If you do this at a minimum it really doesn't matter what you gamble as long as you stick to the rules.
The first rule of money is to PAY YOURSELF FIRST. That means save for your future, put that money away before anything else. Put away your money before you pay your light bill. Invest in that 401k before you go out to eat. Your main priority is to first pay yourself. If you never follow this rule than your going to be tempted to try and "catch up" because you haven't saved anything. Resist the temptation even if your older, it's never too late to start paying yourself. Start small and build up but be true to thy self. Don't steal from yourself.
I don't think anyone should invest more than around 5% (preferably only 1%) of their income to gambling and if your not good at it you shouldn't invest anything. 2nd rule of money is that if it doesn't make you money STOP DOING IT. If you lose more money than you win then you probably should stop unless you love losing money. It's now not an investment but a money pit. If your just funding a money pit then your an idiot. If your not good with keeping your word to yourself than get someone to manage your money for you. It's not that expensive and you have to get help when you get to the point that your stealing from your self.Comment -

#78I budget 7% of my income for gamblimg purposes. For me this is recreational and the money would go elsewhere regardless. I've done more harmful vices at least this one there is the possiblity of a financial return in the short term. If I don't establish some guidelines for myself I will repeat the past again. No thank you'Comment -

You obviously have your own personal demons with your idiotic remarks. I personally know someone who lost about 8 mil in the madoff scheme. Should he run down to the employment line also. He already worked his whole life to get that money and now its gone.
The guy lost. He lost millions over his lifetime. He owes books money, but he had paid off all his clients. He is getting himself help and has worked out a deal to handle his business with someone who he owes money. When money is earned it will be distributed. They guy in my book is stand up. Something spanks(cause all you do is jerk off most likely cause u cant get laid) knows nothing about. Because if he did he wouldn't make idiotic statements. I can guess your a bonus whore type who steals from books. Bets bad lines and complains when they get cancelled. Look for outs and get pissed when the cant pay, but never actually look at who is booking your horrible action. Guys like you if this fits your profile are a dime a dozen and are crooks. This guy is as about as standup as they come, has been for 30 years I know him. His demons got to him. But at least he's not you, your a piece of shit from the way you speak.Comment -

#89easy solution. don't know why your friend is crying.
here's what you do. you take your buddy Sir Gamble Alot from that clinic and you deposit him in a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon's office. He gets multiple sex changes until he becomes a two-trick tranny. Right now, two-trick tranny's make a killing on the open market. He can turn tricks from Buffalo to New Orleans to San Diego to Juneau, Alaska....
You will be his manager. AFter he makes his/her first 10 million bucks you will then begin to market your friend as a nanny. He/she will become the greatest two-trick tranny nanny of all time. He/she will work for Michael Jackson and make an additional 15 million a year caring after MJ's offthings... I mean, offsprings.
Get to it. Stop your crying and go pick up your friend from the clinic right now.

#94So disturbed by this I had to post to hope no one in here ever gets to this point. I just got off the phone with someone I have known for many many years. He's always been a stand up honorable guy in my book. Been in this business his whole life. I considered him a sharp guy, so did many others. Always seemed to have his head on straight and always preached to others the perils of pathelogical gambling. If you bet you would want him to be your guy. Always kept his clientele in control, never let anyone get over there heads. That's why hearing this story disturbed me so much. He just called me and broke down. He's beyond broke. Beyond desperate. And he owes hundreds of thousands of dollars all over the place. He basically told me he lost close to 4 million over the last 2 years chasing. He didnt ask me for money. He just didnt want me to hear it through the grapevine. If this guy can go bad like this, anyone can. I know he was always an earner, but he said he's done. He hit the wall and he is checking himself into a rehab center(didn even know they had them for gambling). He said he cant do it anymore. He always has ways to play because of his honorable rep over the last 20 years. It's mind boggling to say the least. I am at a loss for words. Anyone in here ever deal with this type of problem at this level? I wish I could make sense of it. This is the first time in all my years in this business I actually think it can be a disease. It's so sad. Anyway, just needed to get this out there. If anyone in here feels they have this massive of a problem, please get help. This is coming from a guy who makes his living at this. I am so sick.

Tell your friend to contact the poster on this board that goes by the name SOXWIN.
I can personally vouch for the fact that SOXWIN pulls down 4 million profit like every day. Except for days where he is too exhausted to bet because he has been up all not banging massively hot chicks that the man can only dream about.
There is one problem your friend will have though. SOXWIN is too busy to post any plays before the game, or let anyone else know who he is playing before the game. That should be understandable, fuk its not easy pulling down 4 million profit every day.
But anyways if your friend talks real nice to SOXWIN he might be able to get one days worth of plays and that will be more than enough to recoup your friends 4 million dollar losses.
but anyways if SOXWIN is banging Angelina Jolie or some other hot chick tell your friend to just wait. That would be total Bullshit if your friend interrupted and ruined Angelina Jolie's only chance to be will SOXWIN. That would be just wrong, have a little consideration for AngelinaComment -

#101*you must always remind yourself that you're gambling to make money, especially if you're a 'sharp'. Most people bet for the 'high' they experience between the placement of a wager and the completion of a match. The outcome of the bet is relatively pointless, because the true satisfaction comes from that 'high'. Pro gamblers could care less about a 'high'. Every bet is a calculated investment maneuver, initiated with only one goal in mind - make more money. It's a fine line to walk. Somehow, your friend crossed over from pure profit to pure high and subsequently made poor picks. I'm not necessarily a believer in anyone's 'luck running out'. *i'm sure that wall street investors struggle with the same issues of addiction. Only the strong will survive.Comment -

#103wow this thread got resurrected from the dead
i don't have a ton of sympathy for those that completely screw up their lives by gambling/drugs/etc and then claim they have a disease.
why should we have more love for the guy that loses everything and screws up their family than the rest of us guys that work hard and spend quality time with our family?
come on just play with the money you have instead of jacking up the credit cards/going on credit/etc
COMMON SENSE says that if you only lose the money you have then your problems won't be that badComment -

#105Yes this can happen to any PRO, this is why you have to stay in complete control of your highs and lows meaning you must have emotions like that of a cyborg at all times or you will give into the false euphoria of your highs and false self doubt for your lows which is a clear cut inevitable one way road to disaster every time without question...........
