I guess it's better than going to prison like some of the past coaches and players.
North Korea's tiny dictator Kim Jong-Il is reportedly so pissed at his country's terrible World Cup performance -- that he tore into the players and sentenced the coach to hard labor.
According to several reports, Jong-Il was fuming at the team's 0-3 showing during the tournament -- which included a 7-0 loss to Portugal -- so he and 400 government officials called the squad into a meeting, where they were verbally bashed for 6 hours.
Jong-Il was reportedly so mad at the coach -- Kim Jong-Hun -- that he ordered the dude to perform hard labor AND stripped him of his membership to Jong-Il's political party ... probably a blessing in disguise.
On the bright side -- past North Korean athletes and coaches who've failed to produce have been reportedly shipped off to prison camps ... so there's that.
And excerpted from another article:
The North Korean football coach along with the whole team had to face much humiliation from the sports minister, Pak Myong-chol with 400 government officials and public outcry at People’s Palace of Culture.
The North Korean football coach had to face the ire of Kim Jong-un, the heir apparent of the Supreme leader Kim Jong-il, and was made to boot out of the Workers’ Party of Korea to become a builder.
The players too shared the embarrassment in July 2 debate for not succeeding in their ”ideological struggle” in South Africa but were then made to blame the North Korean football coach Kim Jong-hun for their shameful exit which has been worst since its debut in 1966, as the team couldn’t win a single group match and went on to face a huge 0-7 loss against Portugal.
Only two players Japanese-born Jong Tae-se and An Yong-hak, who took direct flights to Japan after the tournament, could escape the contempt. As reported by the Chosun Ilbo newspaper, the past punishments for the defeated players and coaches have included prison sentences, it’s not surprising that media believes the retribution for Kim Jong-hun and the team has been hardly arduous.
