PLAY #51: [BRAZIL SERIE B] Ipatinga vs. Santo Andre OVER 2.5/3 [-117]
Haven't had much luck in Brazil, so beware. Still, Ipatinga has scored and conceded in four straight at home and have seen three goal totals or better in 6 of 7 at home in Serie B this season. Santo Andre has given up at least two goals in four straight on the road and have given up multiple road goals in 6 of 8 this season. My feeling here is if Santo Andre scores, this match will hit at least three. If Santo Andre doesn't score, it could wind up going to three still, but might fall short at two.

            PLAY #52: [CHAMPIONS LEAGUE] Zenit-St.Petersburg PK/+0.5 [-130]
The Russians hold a 1-0 advantage as they take on Auxerre on the road today. Zenit will know heading into this one that they need not do anything but draw to progress to the group stages. Zenit could receive a boost offensively with the return of winger Vladimir Bystrov. The Russians have been in fine form domestically with five wins and a draw since beginning play in July. Auxerre meanwhile has yet to earn a full three points through three matches in Ligue 1. Auxerre must find at least one goal to knot the aggregate score in this one and that may be asking a bit as their forte seems to be more counter attacking and not full-on attacking. If they are a bit out of their comfort zone in a full attack, that should give the Russians opportunity to potentially nab a killer away goal that could clinch their advancement. I think Zenit will be careful, but will have that killer instinct today if the situation presents itself.

Nope. Down 2-0. Chalk up another loss. In a bit of a cold snap. Bad Mojo, been talking myself off picks that wind up winning and sticking with the losers. Bleeechh!

Auxerre are really playing spirited football. They totally deserve to be in the CL group stage. My homer Jelen scored a suberb gol and should they hold on he'll be a hero.

I just wish I'd go with my first inclination and quit F-ing myself. Today, I was leaning to the Zilina-Sparta UNDER 2.5/2. I always go through a week like this where I have to remind myself to trust the gut. Stupidity is fun.

PLAY #53: [EUROPA LEAGUE] Porto vs. Genk UNDER 3 [+115]
Porto has all but wrapped up advancement after a 3-0 win in the 1st leg on the road. That affords them the luxury of playing a lesser squad if they choose to in order to save some of the regulars for the domestic league this weekend. Since returning to league play, Porto has kept clean sheets in all four of their competitive matches to-date. Hard to think Genk is going to dent the scoresheet on the road if they could not at home. Porto's goals in the 1st leg also indicate it could be lower scoring today. They scored their 1st on a penalty and then netted two in the final ten minutes. Porto certainly is capable of crushing the Belgians if they choose to, but I'm siding with them putting on a good display, getting a goal or two and settling into the next round of the Europa League comfortably.

PLAY #54: [HOLLAND EREDIVISIE] NEC vs. Heerenveen OVER 3 [-115]
It is early in the new Dutch season, but NEC's defense has really been struggling with 7 goals allowed in their last two matches. Their offense has kept pace with 7 goals. Heerenveen finally got their offense untracked last week at home with a 3-1 won over NAC Brada. They had just one goal prior to that match. Unless NEC found some magic glue for their defense, I expect we will see some more goals today.

The Revs have a lot of work to do to try and catch the final playoff spot in the East, so they have to gain three points when they play at home. Playing the Union should be a good elixir for their poor road play as Philadelphia has gained results in just two of their 11 road matches. New England has won three straight at home and four of their last five at home overall. The Revs shouldn't be fearful of the visitors here having gained a 1-1 result on the road against them earlier in the month.

Interesting battle here with two teams desperately chasing the 4th playoff spot in the West. Colorado has a legit shot, standing just one point behind that spot while Houston has a lot of space to make up. Colorado has had all sorts of problems scoring goals this season, averaging just one goal at home this season. They have scored one goal or less in eight straight. At home, they have conceded just three goals in their last six. Houston has had issues scoring on the road most of the season with just 7 goals in 10 games and they've been shutout in three straight. Their main issue has been defense. With Colorado's last sevent at home hitting two goals or less, will side with a low scoring match here.

As per usual, tread lightly in the first leg of these ties as anything realistically can happen. Neither Lyon or Schalke have been in good form domestically with Lyon holding just one win in five Ligue 1 matches. Schalke has been even worse with three straight losses to open Bundesliga play, allowing two goals to each opponent so far. It might be too much of me to expect Lyon to put on their scoring boots, but I think Schalke's flimsy defensive play warrants a shot here.

Madrid showed more defense under Mourinho in their first two La Liga matches after playing a bit loose in their friendlies beforehand. Ajax is a capable squad that can find the back of the net, so I think the Spanish side will be weary of trying to open up too much early. Ajax likely would be hugely happy with a draw today, so I expect they too could be willing to take a few less chances if it means getting a result today. Smaller stakes of course in the opening legs of these ties.

Mourinho typically doesn't like his teams to concede. Madrid could shutout Ajax and edge it by a lone goal. I realistically can't imagine 4 goals being scored in that game.
