In the USA politicians have raised gas taxes, sugar beverage taxes, estate taxes. They hike every tax other than income taxes. There's never an effort made to calculate the real or effective tax rate which is what people pay when taxes outside of the income tax are surveyed.

Fake news fools people into believing the fed can deploy widespread and comprehensive fiscal policy via adjusting rates. Like income taxes, this fools people into believing there is no real economic change being implemented as long as rates remain steady.
