Any book should have the right to change its rules, but seriously they tried to change their rules and backdate them to come into effect before this fella won his bet ? Almost seems too stupid to be true, and actually surprises me as I thought they were smarter than that.

Considering they had only just got their licence in Australia, for the sake of roughly £40k GBP this should have been used as a massive marketing/advertising opportunity to spread their name around a bit more now they are licenced.

They should have paid this guy and gotten a photo opportunity with one of them giant cheques that newspapers seem to love and said "come bet with us, look at how much this lucky chap won" and sit back and watch the money come in.

Even if the limits were initially incorrect on exotic bets like this, and they were subsequently lowered to the new amount, they could have used that to their advantage by saying "we messed up, but we are a licenced company in Australia now, so here we are proving that despite having wrong limits initially...we are trustworthy and will pay this bet out anyway as a gesture of good will and then correct the limits for subsequent bets"

And lets face it, a punter like that betting $4000 on an exotic bet...how long do you think it would take him to throw it all back to them anyway...

I'm a bit surprised they are allowed by NT commission to backdate rules at all though.

I beleive they are saying the race was dodgy/set up in some way, but I'm not sure they knew this before making this decision, story not consistent.

There was a case earlier in the year with a stable lad from the UK (Henderson's yard I think) who won £2.5m or something but they only paid out £1m citing a similar rule. Can't remember exact details.

The race wasn't dodgy, they offered him 20 or 25k to shut him up but he didn't take it and wants exactly what he is owed, 73k.

Today Tonight, is a news show similar to 60 minutes i guess is all i can compare it to. On Ch 7. It's for real.

Even if they went with their current story from the start though both dogs were checked by the vet after the race and found nothing to be wrong with them, one dog even under went a vet check before the race and was cleared. A swab was also taken from the favourite in the race. Just because a dog doesnt chase they cant say we're not paying, plenty of dogs fail to chase every day thats just racing. Whats next, if i place a grand on an outsider and the favourite misses the start they wont pay out because they claim it was fixed that he would miss the kick?

It was a maiden race with the favourite having its first start and it simply didnt chase, end of story. If the guy knew it was a non chaser then good on him, i know plenty of dogs who dont chase and back against them
