Sam that is a little high. I would get an explanation out of them why. If it isn't good enough then post away. They should have enough courtesy to cancel ahead of time. Please make sure that it is a valid reason first. I enjoyed it two years ago and if my moms health wasn't so bad right now I would have done it again. This is the way you need to handle this.

the point is doesnt matter if your mom or kid is sick or healthy, should still alert the organizers of an event that you will no longer be attending. no need to explain why.

When you rsvp that you will be attending an event, regardless whether it's a Bash or a neighborhood dinner party, simple common courtesy is to inform the host if your plans have changed.
