President Obama does not currently have enough white support to win re-election even if he retains his minority base from 2008.

Today, fewer whites back Obama than any Democratic candidate since Walter Mondale. Romney does not need to emulate Ronald Reagan to win. Should he match Reagan’s share of the white vote in 1984 -- presuming all else remains constant since 2008 -- Romney would rout Obama.

The white margin to watch: 61-39. That’s the rough break-even point. Obama likely needs more than 39 percent of whites to assure re-election. Romney likely needs at least 61 percent of whites to assure Obama’s defeat (or 60.5 in some scenerios). These are estimates based on an electorate that matches the diversity of 2008 or is slightly less white. It presumes the Electoral College outcome does not diverge from the winner of the popular vote (loose talk aside, it’s only happened four times in U.S. history).

My boss is a black conservative, and he grew up in the projects of Detroit. Saw first hand what liberalism is and how democrat policies are intended to keep black people poor and dependent on government.

Said he feared Obama getting elected because even though he wanted a black president to be elected one day, that if an incompetent black president was elected and did a bad job it would set back the prospects of good black president for decades. He said if there is going to be a black president, it better be a good one, dont just elect a black president to elect a black president. Otherwise blacks will look bad.

Liberals tend to not really understand how the economy works ("Rich people are just too greedy"), so they focus entirely on issues that are easy for them to defend, such as gay marriage. This whole thing may or may not be about race, but it is certainly about trust.

A recent Gallup poll found that 11% of those surveyed believe that Obama is a Muslim(18% of people who identify themselves as Republican and 3% of Democrats say he's a Muslim). I can't imagine anyone who believes that Obama is a Muslim voting for him, they can't even trust that he's the religion he says he is. Why would they trust anything that he says at all?

But it goes beyond that, 44% said when asked if they could name his faith said, "No" or "Don't know". Some percentage of this group is obviously just not informed enough to know the answer, but there is a certain segment who knows that Obama identifies himself as Christian, and doesn't believe him. As above about the Muslims, its pretty much a certainty if you don't believe Obama when he says he's a Christian, you're not going to vote for him, or believe anything he has to say.

This is partially confirmed by the fact that while 37% of people who identify themselves as Democrats can't tell or can't name, 47% of Republicans say the same thing.

But I think the most disturbing recent Gallup poll also has to do with religion which found that 46% of Americans believe that human beings were created in their present form some time in the last 10,000 years(the number is 58% among Republicans).

P.S. If you're wondering about the rest, 8% say he has no religion and 2% think he's Catholic. And if you're wondering about Romney 57% correctly identified him as a Mormon.
