surprised rome had the balls to ask that question, but maybe he got some new producers that write him better stuff to ask than he has had since his first producer left a few years ago. But it is an obvious question for any actual journalist so for stern to get that bent out of shape about it is ridiculous. it is more that he thought rome wouldnt have the guts to ask it than the question itself. but seriously if stern did actual interviews with actual reporters and not fluff pieces or the usual controlled sit downs with knob sucking lap dogs he would HAVE to expect that question to be asked, and would give such a over the top answer and display such 'outrage'.

The ironic thing is I suspect the question, answer, and rebuttal question were all 'rigged' as in set up before the interview and more than likely talked about before hand to get the maximum exposure for both people involved. So IMO this was all a reality based interview where they predetermined what was going to happen then tried to act it out the best way they could to get the biggest buzz going about it.

Because to think if Stern was on 60 minutes or Meet the Press or some actual nws reporting show where the interviewer asks an actual meaningful question and Stern looked at Mike Wallace or Tim Russert and asked them if they still beat their wife in some off the cuff remark he would be crucified, especially in response to a very legitimate and OBVIOUS question like the one rome asked.

I don't get why Stern doesn't realize the conflict of interest or I'm sure he does he just realized he was ******. I just wish he acted more professional about instead of blowing up like he's got something to hide.

Its a loaded question. When someone asks a question like that, it presumes guilt. Stern basically went for Rome's junk hard core. Rome probably should have asked the question in a different way. Normally the interviewer and interviewee discuss these types of things before the show, so stuff like this doesn't happen.

this isnt the first time stern has gone off the deep end. he also went off on dan patrick when he asked him about the amare suspension vs spurs few years back.

like i said, rome wasnt trying to go for his jugular, he was actually giving him an opportunity to address the conspiracy issue. instead of answering like a mature adult he went playground on rome. all he had to say was that the lotto was handled by a reputable outside agency with all the executives from each team there as witnesses. that would have satisfied most listeners but noooo he had to throw a temper tantrum. now more people believe it was fixed.

I know this has kind of been addressed already in this thread, but with respect to the "When did you stop beating your wife?" comment, this was not a comment specific to this conversation, and Stern was not implying Rome beat his wife. The question "When did you stop beating your wife?" or "Do you still beat your wife?" is a commonly given example of a loaded question. Rome's question to Stern "so was the fix in on the lottery?" was a loaded question, so Stern simply shot back with the well-known wife-beating question as a way of demonstrating that Rome's question was equally unfair. Say what you will about Stern, I think he handled himself well in this interview, and Rome got pwned.

Jim Rome and David Stern get into it

Don't know if anyone has already posted this but it's one of the most contentious interviews I've ever heard:

After David Stern 's thoughtless and careless response to an admittedly irresponsible question while appearing on Jim Rome's show, the NBA owners need to step up and demand that the commissioner of the NBA step down immediately...

No he didnt beat his wife or women in general. It was used as a flippant saying - not literal. Bill Burr talks about it on Joe Rogan's latest podcast
