Do you realize that as far as QB ratings go, in Archie's day, defensive backs were at liberty to trash receiver's as they went down the field (no 5 yard contact rule)?
I followed the Saints in those days and realize exactly what Archie went through.
Archie had no offensive line and got beat to shit (literally). In fact he openly campaigned to keep his kids out of Louisiana Univerisities ao they wouldn't have to go through what he went through.

being a good qb in high school takes a little somthing extra special... more then just athleticism
being a qb good enough to go to a D I school on scholarship is exceedingly rare.
A qb that is able to crack the starting lineup on a D I squad is amazing.
a qb that is able to garner national attention at a DI school is more rare then people with 6 toes.
a qb that is able to step from DI national acclaim to a starting role in the NFL is more rare then republicans in chicago.
a qb that has a starting role in the NFL that is 'remembered' for being one of the best at his position for any period of time is less then 20-25 in a billion.
the truth is.... without a good/great supporting cast of skill guys.... a good o-line and a good defense... there are about 7 guys in modern nfl history that we can recall as honestly truly "GREAT" out of billions of people and millions of football players from all levels.
the truth is, being an NFL qb may be one of the most demanding jobs in all of sports...and if you aren't in the top .001% in about a half dozen areas of athletic/mental/emotional ability... you'll never make it.
thats why you can make a longer list of "great" college qb's with infinite talent that washed out in the NFL... then a list of great qb's with a decent amount of longevity.
you might see some guys come in and do okay for a couple years... but to exel at a high level for any period of time is almost miraculous.Comment -
