Has anybody here ever actually done that job? Seriously. This has been brought up here over comments I made using this screen name at another forum. I would gladly talk about food delivery as a job, and I have no shame of having done it. There are people who support there families doing it.

Look, I am a registered professional engineer in 3 States, and I still respect the skills and difficulties that job took.

One of the many things that makes humans imperfect is they need to eat to survive so there are not too many things more important then someone making/bringing you food...

If you want to laugh start naming all the professions that are looked higher upon then someone making/bringing your food...

For the record, I found no discernible correlation between race and tipping habits.

I delivered pizza in Novi, MI in 88-89, and there was most definitely a disparity in tips among race. Nobody wanted to deliver to blacks

Delivered for a short while in Reno in 90; simply too short to form any kind of valid opinion, but I remember a couple of 30 minute scam attempts by blacks (Dominos had it then).

Delivered pizzas in Baton Rouge LA in 1993, and this was awful. The blacks were rude, nasty, and acted like they were doing you a favor by letting you deliver them pizzas.

Same in baton rouge in 1997.

Same in Tampa Florida in 1998.

I've fallen on hard times and had terrible jobs, but I've never had to stoop to delivering pizza. Even worse, delivering pizza in the ghetto. Even worse yet, doing it over a 10 year period! I really need to count my blessings.

I have had many a crap job in my time. I have not actually delivered pies but I certainly can't look down on it.

As far as shovel-smacking goes, I don't see an option for "obsessive-compulsive micro-managing boss" so I will go with #1.

I apologize to the pizza delivery drivers out there. I'm sure it's thankless work, but I didn't mean to condescend towards them in general. I'm just glad that I never had to do it. But I've done plenty of really crappy jobs that I'm glad I'll never do again:

Telemarketing
Door to door sales
Putting up hay on a farm (square bales)

These were the worst. I've also washed dishes, swept floors, bagged groceries, helped customers, etc which isn't that taxing. The worst part about all of these jobs is that they don't pay shit. We've all had to do those kinds of jobs, there's no reason to look down on the people that do them.
