I'm voting for OBama - TWICE!
I'm not American, but my parents obtained US citizenship years ago when they lived in the US and owned property, US laws are barbaric when it comes to "foreigners" owning land in the US so I convinced them to get US citizenship, for convenience and to avoid legal hassles.

Since they are American (on paper) they are eligible to vote in the US Election, I've convinced them to vote for Obama, so add +2 votes for him, courtesy of betplom.

I'll be taking them to the US Consulate here in the city to make sure they do it.

You should vote here in Chicago we are known for voting multiple times. In the 60's and 70's I heard that many " Dead People " seemed to vote in elections.

Hope your parents last lived in a swing state..

Surprised they wanted to get their citizenship though.. now they are taxable by the US Federal gov't regardless of which country they live in, for the rest of their lives.

8 years of failed economic policies and failed wars is enough! Another 4 years of Bush/McCain would be the most devastating blow to the U.S. ever

            Bush/McCain

McCain is practically a Dem. Many Dems are voting for McCain because of it.

The democrats are not clamoring for more war as Mccain does. They want to end the War Profiteering known as the Iraq war and they don't look to start another war with Russia by needlessly surrounding it with military bases, missles and joint military training in the neighboring countires.

Secondly, the democrats did not pressue greenspan to stand by while the banks and wallstreet recklessly loaned out money creating a housing bubble that was sure to burst. How bad to things have to get before people actually get upset with the failed management policies of Bush/McCain?

McCain crashed three planes and finished at the bottom of his class. Anyone that thinks he is fit for running the country is delusional.

The only state they lived in was Florida. They couldn't wait to return to Canada.

True, they have to file tax returns for both Canada and the US, since they reside in Canada they only pay taxes to the Canadian government, this is reported to the IRS, they do not pay taxes twice.

They have consulted with both US & Canadian tax lawyers to make certain they comlpy with the applicable laws.

Americans don't need any help "screwing up an election", your past history shows you are perfectly capable of doing that yourself.

I just hope your parents understand that when they step in that booth no one can force them to pull the Obama lever. They can vote for whoever they want and don't have to tell anyone who they voted for or why.

Yeah but if they wanted to move somewhere that had a lower income tax rate than the U.S. and didn't have a tax treaty with the U.S., they'd be screwed. As long as they plan on staying in Canada or U.S. they are fine, except for the hassle of filing two returns.
