Every time a woman wants to have sex, Limbaugh thinks she has to take a birth control pill to avoid getting pregnant.All this ignorance came to light after Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke was chosen by Democrats to testify before the Issa hearing on contraception. Fluke wanted to talk before the hearing of mostly old men about the health costs to women who need birth control pills for not merely prevention of unwanted pregnancy but also for a variety of ailments including polycystic ovary syndrome, an illness that cost one of Fluke's friends in college an ovary because she couldn't afford the simple cure (access to common contraceptives).House Democrats then had a forum in which they heard testimony by Sandra Fluke. Rush Limbaugh called law student Sandra Fluke a slut and a prostitute for having to take "so many birth control pills" that she couldn't afford to 'buy enough birth control for all the sex she was having.'It's apparent listening to Limbaugh that he thinks that to avoid pregnancy, a woman must take a birth control pill every time she has sex just like many men Limbaugh's age need to take a pill like Viagara every time they want to have sex at all. Limbaugh went on to suggest that the young woman and or any women who want so much birth control (who are all sluts, 'Feminazis, and prostitutes since they want contraceptives) post tapes of sex acts so that he can watch them. He came off sounding like a crazy old Uncle who, at Thanksgiving, claims he invented tampons and wants all the women in the house to wear them and let him take pictures for his 'portfolio.'Not only has Limbaugh and his 18th century radio show 'jumped the shark,' he's the closest thing I can think of to a dirty old man allowed to have his own radio show. And I suppose that's what this is about. Limbaugh is an old man. He doesn't get it. He doesn't even understand how birth control pills work. While you weren't quoting me, I don't think its any better when Ed Shultz did it. I personally didn't hear about it, but I'm also not the person who brought up the Rush thing, so who knows. Additionally, I don't know if Obama was asked about it, I'm sure that Obama would have denounced it.
There is an issue that cuts deeper about this though. In response to the comment Ed Shultz made, he issued a public apology and MSNBC(not even the place he made the comment, it was on his radio show) suspended him for a week without pay. Do you think that any of the radio stations that carry Rush's show are going to call on him to apologize or suspend his show for any length of time, do you think he's going to apologize? I see a lot of right wing commentators lining up behind Rush(a number are also denouncing him), but in my researching the Shultz thing I didn't see any left wing commentators defending Ed Shultz. Please show me any quotation from Fluke where she talks about her range of sexual partners. See the post above where Rush Limbugh seems to think that the pill works like Viagra where you have to take it before every time you have sex, so he assumed that because she had to spend a lot on birth control she must be a slut. Or his equating to someone paying for your birth control pills means that they are paying you to be a whore(again he seems to think you have to take it every time you have sex like Viagara).
Schulz called Laura Ingram a talk radio slut, as in she sluts around talk radio, going on different shows and espousing her views, it sounds like talk radio slutting to me, doesn't make what he said right, and it certainly doesn't justify Rush saying it.
This issue is still obviously alive and well and its not because of the media, why else do you think the Republican Senators brought up an amendment just two days ago(I believe it was) trying to specifically exempt from coverage anything that the organization felt went against their religious teachings(nevermind the fact that you can say anything goes against your religion teachings to exempt it from coverage).Comment -
