Can't agree with you Dan. Fighting is the ugly side of hockey and its totally unnecessary. Hockey is naturally a great game which displays speed, grace and teamwork unparalleled by anything else. All the rules are there. The refs need to call the game by the book instead of "letting them play".
We saw some great hockey 1st year after the strike and it wasn't because of the fighting.
I do believe hockey players in general show good sportsmanship.

People with wealth and power in this country are white. Everything they do is for the advancement of themselves, their families and pals. They don't need the AACP. NHL players conduct themselves with complete CLASS. This is one of the things that makes the NHL such a great league. Plus the players do tons for charities and children.

the two cant be compared, if the powers in the NHL wanted to get rid of fighting, they could, but they dont for a reason. They have gotten rid of bench clearing brawls and we havent seen one of those since they have.

There's more bench clearing brawls in MLB and these players can't even fight. Watching NBA players fight is like watching a cat fight. NHL players are the most humble of pro athletes and are as tough as nails. I would not want to mess with ANY NHL player. These dudes are tough, BUT humble.

Fighting in pucks is what makes the NHL great. Now I do realize the league frowns apon that sorta stuff, however they also understand that it's part of the game and would never put a ban on it. However, it's still the only league where teams shake hands after a playoff series ends.

Dan they also often meet up in bars/clubs after games and share drinks. Fighters in the NHL appreciate one another and never hold grudges. Fighting was, is and always will be part of the game.

There wasn't a strike. The players were locked out.

Fighting, penalties and scoring were all up after the lockout.

Unfortunately the Trap is back with a vengeance and now scoring is down.

If the refs call proper penalties for hooking, roughing and interference then the goons and fighting become pointless.
If you think fighting is an essential part of the game you're missing the boat. If you remember the year after the "lockout" (sorry) the goons basically disappeared from the league.

The one that cracks me up is when a team is getting it's butt kicked and a defensive guy will get a tackle with a loss on the play and he goes balistic.Hmmm,when you stop to think about it,boxers,extreme fighters,mountain climbers,extreme sports people and football players aren't supposed to be smart because you have to be an idiot to risk life and limb doing all this stuff.
