If he said that Josh Beckett has caused him to be barrelled in, and he blew the $500 on the Red Sox last night -- I'd help him. If he says he bought too much car, too bad.

No. Habits don't change and he is proving that to you.

Don't loan him another $400. Tell him to get rid of the Mustang and get a car he can afford. He's just going to ask for another $400 next month. He needs to learn his lesson, this has nothing to do with being a good friend. He knows what he needs to do which is to get a more affordable car. Plus he hasn't repaid you from before so lending him more money is insane.

Banks can't repossess unless he's missed 3 consecutive payments.

So he most likely needs $1200 to stop the repossession. If he's asking only $400, then I'd be real suspicious.

But aren't you the guy who bets $100,000 a day? So what's $1200 to you? You should payoff his loan.

tell me to sell the car and you will loan him $500 to buy a clunker to get back and forth to work if he sets up some kind of payment to pay you back all the money he owes you... helping him make payments on a car he can't afford is just flushing your money away... if you already helped him out once and if he didn't fix his problems it should be over...

I wouldn't even consider it unless you want to give him the money and not expect anything back.

if he's as poor as you say, then he shouldn't have bought a new mustang.

i drive an old POS beater, not by choice, but I can't afford a new car right now, much less a mustang. And I have a decent job.

it's all about priorities, and it sounds like this guy needs a lesson in money management.

not giving him anymore money will help teach him a lesson more valuable than the $400 he's asking for.

Either that or suggest to him hitchhiking.

Let him lose the car. Loans (really gifts to friends) should almost never be made, and in this case you have already helped once. You have to let him deal with his own shit.
