Me personally, having lived in both Canada and the US and with family in both - don't really have an issue.
Others however have a justifiable reason for some hate (not that they post in here)
Sept 11........1973. Chile. Ask these fine folks about having the CIA orchestrate the overthrow of their government and then support the brutal dictatorship that followed for almost 2 decades.
Panama. The US propped up Manuel Noriega for years...then when he became a problem, sent in the marines and levelled entire apartment buildings filled with people trying to pin him down.
Shia (Iraq). These folks were promised support if they rose up against Saddam in the first gulf war. They rose up, no support arrived, and they were summarily slaughtered.

Our stupid politicians with an 8% approval rating and all the nit wits on TV constantly say we are the greatest yet our soldiers piss on people, torture people and throw puppies of cliff's. Our police look at citizens with great disdain and love to put you in jail.
The corruption within government has to be at an all time high. With new laws frequently passed to strip our freedoms away and put more money into the pockets of the mega rich.
We think we have the right to tell other countries what to do and when they don't do what we want we threaten to bomb them and put sanctions on them even though we do the same things only a 1000 times worse.
We constantly meddle in other countries affairs and our government lies to the dumbed down population. Like the no fly zone in Libya which magically changed to a full blown war. We like to push around and bully small nations.
Assholes and frauds like Romney pay 14% in taxes while everyone else pays 30-40% and the pricks on the right say the rich pay too much and should have to pay much less.
I could go on and on with out repeating myself but trying to explain it to a bunch of people only concerned with drinking at the bar, posting threads about taking shits at fast food restaurants and how the local football team is doing will never get it.Comment -

Not sure why Canadians come across as so insecure. Everything is subjective, even the "studies" and charts. Don't think so, go take a statistics course followed up by research class and learn how easily inclusion and exclusion criteria are manipulated. Which defeats the purpose of the study except to push agenda.

I would suggest that one of the largest factors behind the "hatred" is a striking difference in how the US military is viewed by it's citizens and how it's viewed outside of the country. While many Americans view their gigantic military as a huge source of pride (justifiably in many, many ways) and heavily weight their nation's "might" as a criterion for "best country in the world" many non-Americans would characterize US military spending as excessive and bellicose and the ways it utilizes it's forces as needlessly unilateral, or just plain bullying.Comment -

we don't riot because we have been bought off with toys (iphone, ipad, hd tvs, video games, etc) and distracted with sporting events.
having all the water fluoridated and having a large % of the population hooked on fast food and alcohol also keeps people numb and pacified.
most people in the u.s. are far too busy running in the rat race to stop and think about who designed the race and why are they running in it?
go to college for 4 years (now probably an average of 5), so a guy gets out of college at age 23 and pays off his student loan over 5 years.
then he gets a 30 year mortgage and pays that off until 58. probably adds home equity loans somewhere along the way for siding, windows, roof, etc etc

Well the World Health Organization must be stupid then. According to them the US heath care system ranks 37th in the world while costing the most per capita.
