More oil drilling may well help in the short term. No doubt. And that may be necessary. To me, though, that is almost tangential to the real challenge, which is the 50, or even 100, year energy plan. Also, I do have real concerns about the effect of all this fossil fuel fun on the environment. We need to breathe and stuff.

I love this country too. I actually had a serious pull at one point in my life to relocate out of the country, and I refused to do so permanently, at all costs. I do not forget that.

I believe that strong decisionmaking at the national level is important to what this country is. Nothing is automatic. Nothing can be taken for granted. We have to stay vigilant.

That said, the choice of Palin for VP on the Republican ticket is freaking me out.

Ponder this story about Palin's handling of her latest pregnancy. Whether she's the one who actually gave birth, or whether it was her teenage daughter, it's a Bizarre story, either way. Either I cringe at what Palin has done to her daughter and grandson, to save face (and, incidentally, I personally don't think Palin gave birth in April), or I think it is just insane and irresponsible how she handled the birth of a downs syndrome child at age 44. So, either way ...

    Just freakin cooky.

I'm starting to think Sarah Palin will not be on the ticket come November.

I'm wondering who McCain will pick next.

"Just remember my friends, if you follow the ewe with the bell around its neck long enough, you will wind up in a pen and the slaughterhouse." Excellent advice Williebee.

Can someone expain how oil drilling in ANWR and offshore coast of the US (with no current infracture meaning the first barrell of oil will be available in 10 years) will help today's oil shortage demand were the oil is sold to the highest bidder?

Last time I looked, the Court leaned to the 'right' - or to the 'keeping people alive' camp (which is a value for bible thumpers on the right and most of the left). It's not a party issue and it really hasn't been for awhile in the US.

Also, that's a pretty 'left' or 'radical' thing to say about a criminal's rights. They have none and pretty much get nothing - including rehabilitation. They get fed - whoopee. But better yet, they're mostly off the streets.

People in Europe and around the world actually laugh at the Neocons probably more than the bleeding heart left.

While I love the back/forth with Pavy and the B (you guys get my vote) - the real issue with McCain's choice is his willingness to continually change course with his arguments and actions again and again and again. I realize you have to change course because better information becomes available... But his central argument was on experience. I don't know how a Governor of 2 years of the most sparsley populated state in the union (a population less than oh I don't know - Omaha, Nebraska - probably) can be 1 step away from controlling our military and nuclear arsenal.

To me, McCain's campaign made a major error in considering our nation as opposed to trying to pander up some more votes. That's the biggest joke of a choice he probably could have made. McCain likely will not be able to serve 4 years let alone 8 in full - that should concern voters quite a bit (although he does have the best socialized medicine at his disposal that the US can provide! Damn commie Senator).

McCain was a legit candidate before he decided to bend over 4 years ago and give up everything he was for policy-wise, but time and again, his decisions make me even more glad I am no longer in the Republican Party... (You can thank the Neocon for that)

The VP in today's environment is very important. Maybe not back in the framer's days - but today, extrememly important. It seems McCain's thoughts on how to govern put him getting elected first and worrying about the aftermath second. Why do you think the right wing media is downplaying the role of the VP? When it was Cheney - it was 'best VP choice evar' - and boy he has done super for the American populous! Even if McCain gets elected, which is seemingly becoming more and more of a longshot to me - the VP will play a role and as voters, we have to live with that role.

Do Americans really want someone with no experience driving the car while McCain is in the hospital? Do we want a former 'beauty queen' traveling the world and representing our interests? Americans wonder why the nation is a running joke to so many - well, this is just one minor example in the stupidity, ignorance and shallowness of our voters... And the US will be lucky to get out 50% of those eligable to vote for the President... Oh the apathy.

Either way we get a giant douche or a turd sandwich - but damn, I don't know how a republican making less than 200k a year can even consider McCain right now... This decision further illustrates why he's become a horrible candidate for Americans. Well, unless you're a bible thumper who thinks women's right to abortion or being gay are HUGE issues and far more important than anything else...

As for 2nd amendmenters - No one is going to f with the 2nd amendment this time around. I am a huge supporter of the 2nd amendment and feel comfortable voting for a democrat in that regard this time around - although I am a bit leery of who could end up on the bench if a democrat appointed them there - it's very very very close right now in regards to the 2nd and there's a 1 vote majority in favor of the constitution right now in that regard... But that also means there's 1 more vote in favor of state control over a human's freedoms. I guess you can't have it all.:>

This is how she looked before McCain picked her. Glasses with rims (not rimless), less makeup and no botox; she is dressed like a hillbilly wearing a t-shirt and then two $10 Walmart sweaters with a zipper on top of each other not matching (one even has a hood) and to top is all a fake pearl necklace.

No wonder she racked up $150,000 for GOP for dresses and make-up.

I don't think Palin solely cost McCain the election. He didn't run a very good campaign. The Palin pick exposed McCain's poor judgment and damaged his legacy.
