mortgage and health insurance are the usual culprits in the equation

if the 12k/year i spend on health care is out of it (obamacare here i come) i think 40k tax-free would suffice.

the problem is that most people are too busy running in the rat race to think about who designed the race and why they are running in it.
without a mortgage/car loan/student loan you won't be in debt. without debt you probably don't have to work very hard or much.

the guys making $20-30k/year with a family of 4 are just about as well off as the guys making $60k/year when you think about the earned income credits, food stamps, free healthcare for the poor, no real estate taxes for the poor here in wisconsin, free utility assistance, etc etc

My wife and I get by just fine on $80K/yr. Our 1800 sf house that we just built last year, though, is only costing us $1250/mo and we don't have a car payment, so that might be part of why we're comfortable...

Real estate taxes been fully assessed?

I remember when I built my house, mortgage was nice and cheap for the first 11-13 months, then all of a sudden the land was assessed or whatever and mortgage jumped up by 400 bucks a month.

$60k. Low overhead, make good money but I am reckless as heck with my funds and spend way too much on women (can't stop)

This definitely depends on the individual and where they live!

I'm a LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist) and I also sell on ebay. Last year I made a total (from both sources of income all together) of $51,000 and I live Comfortably! I'm also a conservative person so I save more of my extra money than I spend. I'm 24 years old and id much rather save money to put away for my future retirement then just piss it away like a lot of people my age do!
