Oh fukk doing the right thing. What really was the right thing? To give it to Wal-mart so they can either five it to the other guy in line or claim it as their own? Maybe the right thingwould have been to take itand donate it to a kids charity. Or take it and put food on your kids table. Sounds to me like he did the stupid thing thinking it was the right thing because he's be taught that. Sheep

#39Originally posted by Ralphie HalvesOn-topic, when I was in London last month I noticed a number of things that I liked better about England than I do here, and this was one of them -- they don't screw each other over.
In my sister's complex, there's a common area and everyone who has a BBQ grill puts theirs up against the brick wall that encircles the complex. There are about 12-15 of them just sitting there. When you want yours, you pull it out, use it, and put it back. I can't imagine seeing that here without some kind of security measure involved. Just last week, an ex-girlfriend of mine here in Vegas got a 200-pound iron bench stolen from her own front yard.
Walking around London, I also see this homeless guy sitting up against a wall of a building. He has this dirty jacket sprawled out about 5 feet in front of him with a good amount of money on it, by a quick count it was around 30 pounds, or around 50 American dollars. This is in a busy area mind you. I get a closer look at the guy, and he's SLEEPING!! You'd never see that kind of trust here.
Nowadays, London is just as big of a melting pot as anywhere else. In Brixton where we were staying, it was mostly black. I'd walk through decent sized groups of them on my way to the tube station every day, and nobody ever said anything to me or gave me a look.
I knew we were shit-heads here in America, but I had no idea until I got to traveling. Love my country, but to say there's no better place to live is stupid until you've actually seen those places. I've been all over, and a good half of the places I've been offer a better life, better women, more (gasp) freedom, and less taxes.

My experiences from Europe are that their black people aren't like the black people you encounter in Uhmurkah, which is one of the dozens of reasons why Europe provides a better quality of live than the USA.Comment -

And I know what you were getting at with your comment Dutch, we even heard a couple of announcements in the stations about pickpockets, but that's just a matter of being aware and knowing what to look for, like most things. There are thieves in every major city in the world, but the idea of Brits in general not doing each other like that was very apparent to me, in examples I saw every day. It really stood out.Comment -

#56Ralphie is right on. I love the USofA but we continually f#ck it up for everyone.
The difference was really apparent when I was in Japan.
Here the attitude is, "Well just one doing it won't hurt." So we make ourselves the exception to the rule.
Over there the attitude is, "I don't want to be the one that f#cks it up for everyone."
I mean, they had alcohol vending machines there man!!!!! I mean like you could get an ice cold beer or a 1/5th of whiskey from a vending machine. The only reason I knew it wasn't heaven was because it wasn't free!Comment -

#66a couple of quick points:
1) wal-mart employees/managers don't give a rat's ass about looking at the cameras unless wal-mart was the one being robbed/scammed. recently at a hollywood casino in illinois, i know one of their employees stole my $200 sunglasses when i got up for a moment but they wouldn't even look at the tapes because they told me "that's not what the cameras are for". they're only if YOU steal from them, not the other way around
2) i recently found a wallet with i think $180 in it at an indoor amusement park. i walked around asking for the name on the id, nothing.
so i took it to a main desk WHERE MORE THAN ONE EMPLOYEE AND A CAMERA WAS, and had them put it in the safe while i watched.
it's not enough to just "do the right thing"- it's also important to not give others the temptation to do the wrong thing. if my kids weren't around to set a good example for i might've kept the $180 and just turned in the wallet, i don't know.
and i'm not sure turning in the money was the right thing, it might've just taught my kids to be irresponsible because if they lose their money some sucker like me will turn it in and they'll get it back.Comment -

#68Agreed on the cameras.
Also, Walmart employees can be mad shady. When I was on UC back in the day I was getting $1k checks or whatever it was and would sometimes cash them there. This one girl who was actually kind of cute when doing the aloud counting thing tried to slip one by me, twice double counting a hundred bill in an attempt to short me. I caught it, counted out loud back to her and told her to give me the rest of my money. She was scared an embarrassed and instantly coughed it up. I can't help but wonder how many wetback busboys she has shortchanged over the years.Comment -
