It's a matter of edge and value. To you there is obviously value in such a play. Now, what if one were able to quantify their edge fairly precisely to the point they knew a team that was -550 was actually an 85.23% chance to win? Would you bet the -550 line on that game?

i would much rather bet -400,than a run line.games with high odds are generally nail biters. i dont if you remeber black jack mcdowel, wilson alverez, alek fernandez, jason bere.those guys went up against the mariners, and every game was decided by one run.all the odds were -400.

The thing that bothers me most about playing the run line is that teams don't play to win by 2 runs. Actually betting the Money Line in baseball and Hockey are my favorite bets in the big 4 sports because the teams are trying to just WIN the game.

Point Spreads and Run Lines often turn on stupid things like meaningless freethrows and fielder's indifference to a base stealer...

hockey is the worse to bet +1.5 in.. you can be tied all game 2-2, and then with 48 seconds left, the other team scores and now it's 3-2, and you have to sweat the empty netter.. which they do score about 33% of the time.. so you're never safe in nhl with +1.5.. and usually, if you have +1.5, you are most likely paying very huge juice. not a fun way to lose a +1.5..

                  that fckin empty netter..
