Lots of suspensions for Miami, we all know about that. All six of the Labor Day games involving one or two ACC teams have been decided by 6 or fewer points.

Before the NCAA announced its suspensions, Miami opened as a 5.5 point favorite. By Sunday, Maryland was favored by 3.5. Right now 5dimes has Maryland at -4 and the total set at 45.5.

My thoughts right now are it is going to be hard to gauge how good the backups at many of these positions are going to be. However, everyone overreacted to Oregon and LSU and we know how those turned out. I think a play on the total might be the right call here. Seems low but there is a lot of bad weather in the forecast (again). My initial lean is OVER 45.5.

Instead of worrying about what Miami's offense will/won't do I am going to focus on what should likely happen to the Miami D. The damage is especially harsh on the defensive side, particularly on the defensive line. The loss of their three top returning pass rushers plus Spence means they probably won't have much of a pass rush to speak of. Given that offensive line is still a weakness for Maryland that's especially encouraging and should give Maryland the all-important advantage in the trenches. That'll make the entire offense tick smoother: O'Brien will have more time, Davin Meggett will have bigger holes.

Spence being out is a big deal.

My play: Maryland TT over 24.5 -110 (2 units)

Suspensions hit Miami the hardest on the defensive side with 3 linemen, All Conference Senior LB Sean Spence and their strong safety all being unavailable. Couple that with the amount of players that will be seeing their first action on the road under the lights on national TV (6 Freshmen on the two deep). O'Brien has the potential to explode on this young D and the suspensions weigh heavy on Miamis depth thus leaving them susceptible if Stephen Morris makes a few mistakes causing them to stay on the field longer.

Miami's offense has 2 capable running backs and a QB who threw for over 250 yards in a comeback win over Maryland last year. Wide receivers are pretty green with the loss of Leonard Hankerson to the NFL and their 2nd leading receiver also a suspension casualty. If someone will play devils advocate and tell me why this game shouldnt creep into the 50's, I am all ears.
