I live in one of those cities... and I like it. But most other people from my country can't stand the thought of living here. They think it's crazy busy and smelly and expensive (compared to most other places in this country)

To feel rich in this city your home will be well over a million bucks, a nice car that costs 30k-40k in US will often be over 100k here. You can't buy a meal for under 10 bucks even at McDonalds, let alone have 35 franchises offering you all you can eat for 9.99.... and I don't think wages are any higher than a big US city... probably less for the top jobs.

I still like living here, but it doesn't look like Americans have got it too bad in comparison from this distance.

There are hospital waiting lists for elective and non-urgent surgery here in Australia too. But is having to wait 6 months for your free knee reconstruction really such a bad situation that it makes public health care a bad thing?! Sure people here complain about it, but I suspect they would be complaining a lot more if suddenly forced to deal with a system like the US has right now.

Nobody. Not a single soul has to go without even the most expensive sorts of health care.

We all like to talk like we are not the poor people so it doesn't really affect us. But middle class people are just as badly affected by a $50,000 medical bill, or being forced to shell out hundreds of dollars on drugs every month.

There is also private health insurance, private hospitals and the ability to pay to be operated on tomorrow if you like here btw. I am pretty sure it's similar in Canada.
