Anyone have trouble falling asleep at night?
I saw this post on another forum and figured it would be pretty good to bring this up here. Not sure about you guys but I have trouble getting to bed almost every night.Seems as soon as I try to go to bed I have a million things on my mind.I've tried sleeping pills before but they can't be good for you
What do you guys do to help you get to bed?

yessssssssss.. i go to bed everyday when it's sunny outside and there are tons of cars already out there in traffic, going to work. it's a very sad life i lead, very very sad.

i wish i never got involved in gambling and just was normal, with a wife, kids and decent hours. what kind of life is this? There has to be more than this in life. i dont mingle with anyone out there, i am in my little bubble here all day in the heat..

    very sad.

i used to have the same sleep problems, staco. try exercising at least 4 times a week, dont eat after 7 pm, and drink warm milk, not lukewarm, but fairly warm. it helps you sleep. if that does not work, try 1 milligram of melatonin, which is a natural sleep-aid.

DO NOT take prescription sleep medication. they contain an ingredient that literally kicks in after 15 mins, makes you feel high for about 1 minute, then you fall asleep. the one i tried was ambien, and i became addicted to that shit for a few months. i am a guy who does not smoke, only drinks beer or wine like once a month, so i dont have an addictive personality, i barely even gamble, so my point is, if i became addicted to that crap for 2 months, so can you or anybody else in the world.

i got the hell away from it and will NEVER take prescription sleep-aids again.

other thing, get up regularly by 6 am and you'll be tired as hell every night by 10 pm, thats my MO and it works. weekends stay up late, maybe til like 1 am, but get up by 8, dont sleep in. this keeps your circadian rhythm, ie your sleep cycle, going good

        Ya it sucks
I pretty much wake up really early to bet tennis most mornings and by the time noon hits I am bagged as shit and take a nap for about 3 or 4 hours and then by that time the nights action is about to start gambling wise and I gamble until about midnight or so and now I can't ****ing sleep. It blows. I am sure the nap during the day doesn't help me get to bed at night but I have to take the nap or else I will be a zombie.

Good points hoopster. I think regular exercise might do wonders. Hard to find the motivation to do it.
I am guessing drinkingalot of alcohol can't help either. You guys should see all of the empty beer cans, rum bottles and pizza boxes laying around my house

            Nicky,

            Its not sad...its great!....

I do the same thing bud...go to bed about 4-5am wake up about 12-1, feeling refreshed, go cap some games and go do whatever I want after.

Dont be such a downer man. Its great to be able to sleep whenever you want.

Its difficult to muster up any enthusiasm to get to bed when youve got a wife as ugly as mine.

My problem is that I never really want to sleep. I'll be up for 28+ hours sometimes. I have no problems falling asleep when I want to since I usually need the sleep at that point anyway. I've had many 30 hour sessions on poker tables before. I guess insomnia is more of a choice for me, if my case would even be considered that...

Thats a fair point and luckily I can say Im the same. If I have to be up at 6.00am I can go to bed at 4.00am and still not be late. I actually prefer life at night, its more relaxed and you can get more done in a tranquil kinda atmosphere, Im a nite owl.

I'll tell you a funny story which is 100% true. I actually decided to move to the USA because staying up all night to bet MLB was ruining my life in London. The games would start at midnight and I used to ****in love staying up all nite but it was becoming desturctive in lots of ways and social interaction was getting less and less so I decided to move where the action was. If only I knew then how much online offshore books sucked I wouldnt have done it!

The worst is staying up late and/or getting up early and then you end up losing. Then you think to yourself, "Why the **** did I get up today".What a waste
Bills don't ****ing pay themselves though so I guess you gotta do what you gotta do

That would be the beauty of being wealthy, not having to work and just bet as and when you felt like it at whatever hour of the day. Paradise.

Sex before going to bed is the best sleeping pill preferably with your significant other but will have equivalent results even if done on your own.

nicky if you had a wife right now you'd have 1 of these problems.

                                        1. head aches everyday

                                        2. you'd be whipped running errands

3.you'd be paying child support in the near future. (50% divorce rate in usa) not worth it pal

I fall asleep fine. I wake up around 2am, and my mind starts racing. melatonin is good, my doctor gave me lunesta. I also do find cutting down on liquor and exercising more does help. Good luck.

Melatonin works for me. But I only use it once a week when I can't fall asleep after a half hour in bed.

Depression is the #1 cause of insomnia. Take some Prozac and you'll fall right asleep.

                                                          2. you have to have a habit or pattern before bed

If and when I put my head down and I'm not asleep in 2-3 minutes, I turn the light back on and read. You could take away all of the clocks in my house and put me completely in the dark (no pun intended) what time it was, and I bet that nine days out of 10 I'd be asleep within 10 minutes either side of 11:00 p.m. and awake within 10 minutes either side of 5:00 a.m.
