Just to put it simply, Bush's policies started all of this, and Obama's through gasoline on top of it. Their philosophies are one and the same. Its time to change course. There's only one problem. Is there anybody out there that can/will actually have the balls to do it.

Not really, common sense is a beautiful thing.

Give it up pal, Obama is Americas president and probably will win a second term unless the repubs put a moderate up there.

maybe you are right. King, I want America to succeed so we have that in common. I want America to be the model for others to aspire to. Common sense thought? Comeon. How's Obama doing so far? Is that success? I don't see it.

A moderate didn't work last time with McCain, or against Clinton, for his second term, when they threw Dole against him. The only candidate that can beat Obama would be a conservative with the same conviction and communication skills that Reagan had against Carter. The thing is, I don't see one in this crop, which means if there is any shred of possibility that the economy is improving, Obama will get a second term.

Liberal democrats are PURE POISON. They produce absolutely nothing and live off the hard work of others.

As the decades have come and gone, the U.S. has become more and more saturated with liberal democratic parasites who collect government benefits from the womb to the tomb. These leeches breed LITTER after LITTER, increasing their government assistance checks and as soon as their LITTER turns 18, they go straight to the social services office and sign up for welfare assistance.

Many republican politicians have commented that those collecting government assistance should NOT be allowed to have additional children while on assistance. This is common sense since those that can't financially support themselves are in no position to be having additional children.

Those that TAKE more than they GIVE to this country will ALWAYS be liberal democrats. Those that produce more than they consume will always be conservative republicans. Unfortunately, the former group can NOT survive on their own without assistance from the latter group.

The ONLY THING conservatives ask of liberal democrats is to LEAVE US ALONE. WE DONT NEED YOU and we sure wish you didn't need us.

Yep, only liberal Dem's passed the bills to give gov't assistance. Oops, there might be a few
liberal Repub's in there also, better hunt 'em up and expose them so we can vote them out.

If they want to cut those programs, they better cut tax write offs also.

We ALL use govt assistance. Be it welfare or tax deductions.

I personally, would like to see welfare and SSI taxed.

Actually a study, by of all organizations THE HERITAGE FOUNDATIONS admits that welfare has been on the decrease since the welfare reform act. Granted maybe the last couple of years there has been an increase basically because many children in this country are not getting the nutrients they need. It is all over the national news. This recession can only be blamed on two wars and a decrease in funds through taxation.

Labeling liberal democrats as parasites is ridiculous. I am a progressive and so are many of my friends and not one of us has ever collected a transfer check from the US government. I would not be at all surprised to find that approximately 50% of welfare cases are conservative.

Actually though IMO this is the biggest reason conservatives fight with so much hatred--they don't want to pay taxes, period. This in spite of the fact that the US is one of the lowest taxed developed countries. I believe we are second.

Please explain how the wars and tax cuts caused this recession

And FYI, most conservatives do want to pay taxes. They want to support a defense system, local services like fire/police, and even a little to help people who have had a run of bad luck. What they don't want is to support the lazy leeches of society, the people who feel entitled to everything, etc. They also believe that they are much more efficient with their money than the government is, while progressives tend to believe the opposite.

Lack of funding for the combination of 2 wars + bail outs both under Bush.

                          Lack of funding for what?

The costs of the wars was roughly the same as our deficit for just last year

hahaha, Bush started with a surplus and brought the country a deficit. Obama did not.

If you think Obama's policies are terrible that's fine, but him increasing the debt is not a legit argument when comparing him to the other political options.

yes and that's a fair comment Ink. The first sentence anyways. But giving Obama a pass on his enormous spending simply because Bush over spent is fair? I don't think so. I was just as harsh on Bush for his spending. I am a conservative and what I believe is that you can't spend money you don't have.

here are my thoughts / facts. and I've not looked at which screen names are attached to which thoughts.... and don't care. anyway.

ANY President in US HISTORY would have fought at least 1 of the wars... Every one would have sent troops to Afghanistan. Who would/wouldn't have sent troops to Iraq is debatable, but since there is no way to know it is irrelevant.

Bush spent too much money and was very much out of line with his party stance on the role of government. I believe that is why you will always see polls that reflect a great deal of blame on him - you have the 40% who hate/blame him (and any other Republican) and then you have a portion of his own party who are disappointed in his economic choices that also blame him. (Count me as being part of the latter).

Bush's brother did not help him win a second term in office by tipping the deciding state.... unless his brother is an un-known member of the family and lives in Ohio. Florida was not close in 2004.

The Republican party will not win the Presidency by nominating a moderate. They need to center around the most conservatively electable candidate possible. A moderate Republican will siphon votes. This may very well happen anyway with Republican/Tea Party/Libertarian. If people want a new POTUS, then they better get over themselves and vote for the most electable candidate (i.e. in a 2 party system that we currently have, the one with an (R) by their name).

The US is not the 2nd least taxed developed nation.... at least not where it counts - corporate tax rates. But corporate tax strategy and policy makes my head hurt... and once changes are implemented other nations will respond in kind, so that is just too much for this hour. But what is simple to me is this. Give corporations incentives to flourish. Give them incentives to stay and grow in the US. Give citizens those same simplistic rules. Wipe out the IRS, implement a flat / consumption tax and be done with it. No more whining about people not paying their fair share or people abusing the system. One size fits all, period.

Lastly, a personal observation. I'm almost 39 years old. I've seen almost this entire country and have honestly enjoyed every place I have been. I've lived through high and low points. I had a great job 8 months ago that I was well educated and prepared to do. That job is now in India. I have seen enough rhetoric from both sides to know when the BS meter is off the charts. I just want my country back. I want my kids (ages 7 and 5) to be able to grow up in a prosperous nation and still have all the opportunities that work and skill allow. I don't really care who fixes the problems or gets the credit, I just want it fixed.

As for me personally, I'm conservative, but I am conservative primarily on social issues. I would be ecstatic if I woke up tomorrow and Obama/Reid/Pelosi had found the magic solution. Like I said, I just want things fixed.

Would a flat tax be enough to fund goverment spending? Because if it isn't we still have deficit problems that we can't just keep putting off.

Obama and Ron Paul are the only hope left. Good luck.

Absolutely correct, Republican debate and start of NFL so much more important than a stinkin job speech. What a hamburger!

if you wanna save yourself time you can just youtube the speech from last year.

It is the exact same speech and will achieve the exact same goal; nothing.

Honestly, I would label anyone who plans on watching the speech a sucker, unless you just don't have anything else to watch or do and need a good SNL skit.
