#302No doubt. The greatest match I've ever seen....... instant classic for years to come.
Nadal might have just put Federer in to grand slam retirement cause I don't see him winning another one for the rest of his career. I mean this was his court... his homefield... and got beat.Comment -

A lot of people will think that, but I couldn't disagree more. Federer has been on a gradual downslide, but coming back from 2-0 down may be the inspiration he needs.
I'm going to check the odds tomorrow, and if they're attractive I'll take Federer to win the US Open. There's nobody can compete with his best on hard court.Comment -

#305Don't do it. Lots of people took Federer to win Wimbledon and look what happened. This is his best court and still got beat. The hard courts belong to Djokovic.Comment -

#309I'm not sold that Federer had mono. I mean all it takes is a blood test to find out. Yet they were unsure for months.
I've had mono before and I highly doubt that he had it or was playing with it. I mean I couldn't even play pickup basketball for couple of months due to all the awful symptoms (fever, fatigue, uncontrollable coughing, sneezing, runny nose, coughing up loogies) and he's playing professionally where it takes a serious toll on his body? I don't believe it. I mean even when NBA players get infected, they are out for months.
Plus, Djokovic beat Federer at Toronto last season. Actually beat Andy Roddick, Nadal and Federer back to back to back. I backed him throughout the Aussie Open and made a fortune, and I will again at the US Open.Comment -

Or put it another way: before that tournament, how often was Federer taken to 5 sets in a slam by the likes of Tipsarevic? Never (the year before he won the tournament and didn't drop a single set). How often does Federer get whipped off court by someone barely in the top100, like Mardy Fish? It's clear he was wildly off form for the first few months of this year.
Sure, Djokovic has beaten Federer before - but the overall head to head is 6-2. After regaining his health, Federer beat him fairly easily in Monte Carlo too, before Djokovic did his usual response to getting whipped and retired.Last edited by HeeeHAWWWW; 07-06-08, 04:06 PM.Comment -

#311Sweating and lethargic? You mean like everyone? It was a hot and muggy tournament. How come no one said anything when he breezed through the earlier rounds? Then he gets outplayed by the eventual champion and now suddenly with all the excuses. I don't buy it.
Like I said, there is no way he could've played with mono. And no doctor in their right mind would allow it.
When was the last time Federer lost Wimbledon? Exactly.Comment -

He only survived there, in the third round, because his serve was on fire (39 aces, 89% first serve points won). Compare that with a few months earlier, when he wins the Masters Cup, and when he beat Djokovic in straight sets in the US Open final.
It was painfully obvious to anyone during that match he wasn't physically well, and he said as much afterwards. The next few months of his season have merely repeated the pattern, losing to a nobody like Mardy Fish, and losing to Roddick who he normally beats easily.Comment -

#314Have you had mono? If not, imagine the worst flu you've ever had. Now multiply that by 1000. You are not just "hot" and "lethargic"..... he would've been sneezing uncontrollably, coughing up discolored loogy, and most likely had a swollen spleen, another symptom of mono.
A long match like that would've put him in the hospital.
Federer lost back to back to Canas last year too. Also lost to Djokovic, Nalbandian and Volandri. Was he sick last season also????
He's already lost 3 grand slam this year.... for the first time in how many years? That's outta be a huge red flag.Comment -

However, in the events where it counted, fast court slams and the Masters Cup, he was crushing everyone in sight, including Djokovic. A few months later he can barely beat Tipsarevic, and gets straightsetted by Djokovic. He was very obviously physically unfit in the Tipsarevic match - everybody at the time was commenting on it. Federer himself said he felt unwell.
Then, doctors diagnosed with him glandular fever. Nothing complicated about it.
Do you seriously think Mardy Fish could slaughter a physically fit Federer?Comment
