Eh, Federer is now (should he lose) still the 2nd best player in the world, plus with his Wimbledon pedigree he should have enough stomach to hold on this set and at least make it more respectable.

I think certain athletes are wired differently and more clutch than others for sure. Compare Tom Brady to Peyton Manning for instance. All these pros, tennis included, can hit the easy shots, can do fundamental things well, but not all can do them under extreme pressure to win or ho home. Especially at this stage.

I believe that if they switched teams 10 years ago the Patriots would have 5 titles. I don't believe Brady is more clutch than Manning.

Federer was overrated today (no way shoud he have been favourite), and he will be underrated after it. Nadal still has shown very little on hard courts (one Aussie Open semi, none at the US). Djokovic? Won the Aussie Open, but Federer was clearly unwell there. I'm still not convinced by him, he's too much of a baseline basher, really isn't very good on grass yet, and is too predictable in a lot of ways.

Federer is the US Open favourite, and should be more comfortably so than he was the Wimbledon favourite.

Do you believe in clutch hitting? I don't so I expect Federer is slightly more likely to break Nadal than vice versa right now.

I don't believe in players performing above norm in clutch situations, but I do believe they can underperform in those situations. They start thinking too much instead of just letting the game come to them and they do stupid things. You can't say nerves aren't atleast a tiny part of the game IMO.

Anyways, I still haven't lost hope. I wouldn't be overly surprised to see Fed come back and win this, although obviously Nadal is the big favourite at this point.

Imo, yes. Federer is clearly not the player he was, whether as an after-effect of glandular fever or gradual technical failures due to lack of a coach. Meanwhile, Nadal is the 2nd best on grass for a couple of years now, and a much better player than last year.

It was always going to be close, and I wasn't saying Nadal was a massive favourite (marginal at best), but if you watched all Nadal's matches at Queens then it was clear he'd stepped up a level this year. That was his best ever grass court movement, flat hitting, serving. Today's match is showing that out.
