It's a very good question actually. There usually comes a point in every Hexversi game that I play when I know that I've won the game. And believe it or not... it's usually within the first 5 to 10 moves. Sometimes even sooner... and piece count almost never has anything to do with it. In our game that we have going right now I would say it's a complete coin toss. So far I am impressed.

Move #9 was a pretty big mistake. If you can recover I will be EXTREMELY impressed.

My ultimate goal in every game is to limit my opponents options down to only one. Once this is achieved the pieces will come without much effort.

Funny you should mention that because I was going to tell you that your opening is very strong. In our last few games I always feel like... "I think he's got this game figured out... I'm going down." My opening is pretty good as well but I tend to get stronger as the game goes on. The key to beating me is definitely to take control of the game early. I'm really curious as to how you would do against other Hexversi players at ItsYourTurn. I think you would beat the majority of them.

Keep the games coming! Some of you guys are getting quite good although you might not realize it. It reminds me of playing my older brother in Backgammon in my youth. I virtually never beat him. I didn't realize that I was a pretty good player until I played other people.

I've been playing pretty well lately so I'm going to add a new game to the challenge. The game is Reversi Blackhole. It's played on an 8x8 board and the rules are the same as regular Reversi/Othello. There is one difference though, there is a random Blackhole or "dead spot" placed on the board before the game starts. I like the idea of this because each game is a little bit different than the previous one. Out of all the Reversi games Reversi Blackhole is the game that I have played the least. In fact, it's been several years since I've played it at all. The first 5 people to beat me at Reversi Blackhole will receive 100 points each(100 points max). Everyone is eligible to win these points, even if you have already won points in the past. You've definitely gotten better you've just been playing the wrong person... lol. Seriously though, I've been playing really well lately. There are quite a few little "tricks" that I haven't shared with you guys and I think that gives me a pretty big edge.

Without giving away any of my secrets... the best advice I can give to newer players is to forget about piece count entirely. Piece count only matters after the final move of the game. Focus more on positioning. The key is to try to always have more options than your opponent. Whomever has the most options is almost always winning the game regardless of what the piece count is.

I just got beat 23-13 in Reversi 6x6 by JediMindPicks. Congrats Jedi!

Here's the current status of all the different games and the points I am still giving away:

Reversi 6x6: 4 people have beat me so far. I still have 100 points to give away.

Hexversi: 3 people have had at least half of my score in a completed game. I still have 200 points(100 each) to give away to the next two people to have at least half of my score in a completed game. Nobody has beat me in Hexversi yet. The first person to do this will get 500 points.

Reversi Blackhole: Nobody has beat me yet. I have 500 points(100 each) to give away to the first 5 people to beat me at Reversi Blackhole.

Keep the games coming! DAD and JediMindPicks have both become outstanding players. They probably have no idea how good they have become. I would love to see these guys play each other. In Hexversi I would give the edge to DAD but in both Reversi 6x6 and Reversi Blackhole I would give the edge to JediMindPicks. SBR should put up odds if they ever play each other. I'll back it with my own points if I have to.

My ultimate goal in starting this thread was to turn people on to the Reversi games and all it's variations. I hope I have turned on at least a couple of people to these great games. The post just above this one is still current with the point status. Keep the games coming!
